3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 PaulHegedus (550) - - SEP 24, 2011
Bottle. Poured into a snifter. Amber brown colour. Thin tan head. Bready malt in the aroma is fairly strong. There’s some damp wood in there, with brown sugar and spruce. Full bodied. Slick on the tongue. Very bitter flavour. Malts have some caramel and toffee to them but also some dark fruits like grape or raisin. There’s a bit of grape big league chew bubble gum to this. It also tastes pretty boozy. Finish is long and very bitter.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 WheatKing (193) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
This was a disappointment. Flying Monkeys makes awesome beers, but this just ain’t one of ’em. Completely unbalanced. Hops are there for flavour, not just pure old bitterness to cover any other flavour they might be. And yes, I know what a good high IBU IPA should taste like... this just isn’t one of them. Better than the average Pale American Lager? I wouldn’t know, I couldn’t taste the beer. No explosion of flavour here, sorry.
2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 neongolden (62) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 15, 2012
(650mL bottle from LCBO) Pours a deep brownish amber with miniscule off-white head. Aroma a mess, sweet toffee malts, booze, hop resin and something like rotting fruit or a mix of ketchup and soya sauce. Not to be smelled. Flavour is a little better, very sweet malts at the start with some green hops, roast kicks in mid-palate and then the finish dries down like classic cough syrup with booze, resin and alcohol and sweet red fruit all mixed up. Long dry medicinal finish. Mouthfeel surprisingly watery with prickly carbonation. Brash, out of balance and with too many off flavours, like a DIPA that got lost and became a bad American barleywine.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Glouglouburp (4783) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 29, 2012
In short: A sweet super-sticky copper ale with hops resin. Distasteful.
How: Bottle 650ml. Consumed probably fresh a few weeks after purchase
The look: Clear copper body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose is sweet malts (barley candy) with notes of resinous hops. Taste is sticky sweet malts, grossly sticky, barley candy wrapped in candy, some berries, flavourless hops resin that only adds a sticky bitterness. Alcohol a bit apparent. This was pretty gross, drain pour. I can drink this beeer but I’ll surely never operate an actual Supercollider particle accelerator, I’m no rocket scientist, I have however observed that tit and boob are palindromes, because this is the type of scientist I am.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 thb (485) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 26, 2012
Pours mid-brown with foamy creamy head. Some floaties. Aromas are a bit of a mess - mix of toffee/fruits from a barley wine, raisin from a dubbel, and american hops from an ipa. A bit of cough medicine. Taste is surprisingly sweet for the style and aggressively bitter. Perhaps the bottle I had was old, but this was not entirely a pleasant experience.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rob6239 (228) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 26, 2012
Pours dark gold with intense hop and alcohol aroma. Taste was pretty bittersweet upfront but turned sickly sweet afterward.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 solidfunk (662) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 26, 2012
Hard hops, hard smell. Full of bitter flavours, almost poison with bitter florals and permeating scents. I’m not sure how much more of an IPA I taste in this supposed double - it’s India but not Nirvana,by any means. Had half a glass thanks to dude at bar freshly arrived from Ontario farm. Things are like that. At the Rhino.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Metalchopz (1429) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 22, 2012
Bomber from the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with an off-white frothy head that goes down slowly and leaves good lace. Aromas are all-over, with some roasted malts, some sweet ones, some alcohol, some dark fruits and something that smell weird... like food gone bad (soya sauce-like). I can see slight residue around the opening of the bottle, so not sure if some air got in, as some of the brew got out. Not as bitter as I expected. Hard to concentrate on the taste (as the smell is really repulsing me). I still gave it a decent note (as the rest of the scent is good). Goes down quite easy and the lingering aftertaste is actually really (well-balanced between the dryness and bitterness). The roasted malt comes out way after, and this comes and saves this one for me.

Bottle 650 ml
Aroma bold with plenty of hops. Aromatic some black pepper, some caramel with alcohol on sides. Crisp notes of mango and peach. 7+
Appearance clear dark amber with creamy mid beige top. Some sticky lace found on glass walls.3+
Flavor and Palate : medium bodied. Initial alcohol dryness followed by leafy hop feel sweeten by crystal like malt base. Bit rough and bold. Reminds me of early Avery beers.
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 thorongil2 (502) - , Ontario, CANADA - FEB 6, 2012
(bottle) clear dark amber colour with small tan head; aromas of citrus, tropical fruit; rich balanced flavour, very nice
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GuillaumeCL (42) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 13, 2012
Pours a hazy ruby brown with a bit of off-white head. Aroma is floral with a bit of a roasty sweet undertone. Taste is surprisingly net very hoppy at first, just a light bitterness, hops the come on full strength for a delicious full texture in your mouth accented by lively carbonation. Definite hoppy finish. Surprisingly good, much better than I was expecting.
