Uruguay seems to produce four beers (god knows, I looked for more and came up dry in both Colonia and Montevideo): they are all very similar pale lagers. Nortena has a hint of sourness to differentiate it from its Uruguayan cousins. Do not buy Uruguayan beer looking for anything other than a standard pale lager. Usually in HUGE 1 liter bottles. Nortena was my favorite Uruguayan beer, due to the slight sourness lending it some complexity. Not bad.

Cerveja Pilsener, amargor baixo comparado com as pilsener brasileiras. Amarelo claro, aroma de malte quase imperseptivel. Refrescante. Boa cerveja!

It is pilsner but does not have a strong hop aroma or bitterness, which is to be expected from a South American beer (too hot for hops, I suppose). It is clear and golden, like a pilsner should be. My friends agree with me that there is a Chardonnay aroma and aftertaste, so I believe that it must be stored in old wine casks or, perhaps, it is different strain of yeast. I’m not sure of this, though. It is not an extraordinary beer, however, I really enjoy the Chardonnay touch. It’s a bit different.

Clear yellow colour with a short lived white head. Aroma is sweetish and a little malty. Taste is sweet malty with very little bitter finish. The basic standard taste you would expect from a macro pale lager. Not terribly undrinkable though

Apariencia correcta. Una cerveza sin gusto, solo amarga. No vale la pena. Se notan alcoholes superiores claramente.

Bottles in São Paulo - This is a simple and "humble" beer. Similar to "FNC Pilsen" and "FNC Patrícia"... this one have golden appearance with a light foam head. Less complex taste... that with a good effort you may find a bit of grass and fruits tastes. From a technical point of view, it is not a good beer (but regular people may like it).

Bottle from my brother in law’s SA trip. Pours yellow and fizzy like the other two pale lagers from this brewer. Smells lightly floral and crisp with some sweet malty undertones. Tastes inoffensive with some sweet malty character.

Aguada.
