A dark, malty escape from the cold New England winter... We put together an insane malt bill for Revery – two row, Crystal 40, Carafa, roasted barley, chocolate malt, and flaked oats combine to make Revery incredibly smooth and rich while boasting a high alcohol content. A delicate blend of Northern Brewer, Tettnanger, and Hallertau hops round out this wintery masterpiece.

Bottle from Meditrina. Labeled November 2014 and 9%. Black, thick, with small brown head and lace. Roasted chocolate earthy mildly spicy mild cinnamon aroma with hints of booze and fruit. Roasted dark chocolate coffee sweetness with some minimal fruit and oat tang. Earthy woody lingering bitterness and some throat coating chocolate. Very rich and soft and smooth. The palate is pretty much perfect. Excellent.

Sampled at 3rd annual RI Brewfest. Aroma is decent amount of roasted malts with ash and hint of vanilla. Flavor is deep roasted grain, burnt barley, roasted coffee grounds, and light notes of licorice. Secondary hints of dark fruits and roasted nuts. Body is leaning on full with a creamy, velvety texture. Nice

Pours a five+ finger, brown head that fades very slowly leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Fierce carbonation and medium bodied-heavy bodied. Light chocolate nose and flavor is roasted/almost burnt chocolate. Not a bad RIS but expecting a more sweeter/maltier flavor. $6.99 for a 22oz bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, MA. Bottled Nov 2013.

My Bottom Line:
Mochaccino flavors are surrounded by roastiness and molasses before leading to a raisin-y finish licked by hop and malt bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the brown-edged black.
-Alcohol heat works well with the finishing bitterness.
-Green hops are also found within.
-This goes well with wasabi-flavored dark chocolate (Lindt).

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2014 Opaque, lacy. Very aromatic, perhaps cheesy but not exactly. Very full body, matching flavor intensity, smooth, almost oily texture, just right alcohol heat and carbonation, long palate, classy finish. Bitter but perfectly balanced by sweetness and a hint of acidity, less than the typical stout. Roast flavors, more like bittersweet chocolate than coffee, yeasty. As good as any stout can get.

On tap at Battleship. Pours a black motor oil color with a thin caramel colored head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, toastiness and a little smoke. Flavor is of roasted malts, bitter dark chocolates, smoke, booze. Seems like it might still have been a little hot.
