3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Has a decent presence from the barrel with flavors of vanilla, caramel, and burnt sugar. However, with a thin body with a slight tart / sour flavor. Not bad, but certainly not the best barrel aged beer I’ve ever had.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Big whiskey nose. Thin brown pour with a thick creamy beige head. Taste is boozy and dominated by whiskey. No malt backbone. No balanced flavor. Needs more meat on the palate to hold up to the 20yr old whiskey barrel they aged it in.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bourbon and elderberry nose. Hazy brown, thick tan head. Bourbon and berry flavor. Thin body. Verry berry-like for a porter, barrel aging notwithstanding.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is full of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Flavor is very similar with some sweet milk chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, oak and bourbon. Medium to thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Very nice.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours black with fluffy tan head. Nose and taste of oak, bourbon barrel, vanilla, roasted chocolate and alcohol soaked dark fruit. In the aroma, the notes meld together well. Taste is a bit overpowering in the bourbon - instead of adding a subtle nuisance it takes over the beer. In a bad way. Not much else going on. Very one dimensional. Body is too light for this kind of treatment.

Bottle: The aroma is heavy on the bourbon, coconut, light oak, mint, and chocolate. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a two finger beige head. A decent amount of clumpy lacing is left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate and caramel. The finish has light-moderate oak, vanilla, bourbon, plum, roasted coffee, and a touch of mint. It’s medium bodied with moderate-heavy carbonation. Overall, it’s definitely bourbon forward in the nose and a little less in the flavor, but it works...if you like bourbon. You could certainly make an argument that it’s too much bourbon.

Powerful BBL influence. Delicious dark taste. One of my favorite porters with that extra kick.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque brown-black with good retention on a tan head, thick horizontal streaks of lace. Taste is rich chocolate milk malt that grows through the swallow, leaving behind a mouth-cleaning bittering in the prolonged finish. A great brew for late evening sipping, impressively warm for 6%abv. Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. I’m nearly sure I have this as a backlog rating from GABF, but I guess a full bottle to ponder won’t hurt. Pours with a near black hue and a very, very large off-white head. Nuts lace. Tons of carbonation on the pour. Aromas are of maple, cashews, toasted coconut, chewy dates, chocolate. Fudge, soil. Flavors are of soil, brown sugar, dates, nutty, marzipan, maple, low roast. Lively carbonation (over carbonated), fuller bodied, low alcohol finish. Quite decent.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours stout black with a large but ephemeral yellow-tinged head. Beautifully strong bourbon aroma. Taste is very bourbon from first sips through the end. The porter base is solid and imparts a nice sweetness, but gets overshadowed by the bourbon at times. But that's a minor quibble -- this is a good brew, especially if you're partial to bourbon barrel-aged varieties.
