Big bourbon up front actually calms into the porter chocolates and mild coffee. Seems like the bourbon is going to be over-powering on the nose but it's actually very well balanced.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2014 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge creamy-foamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was strong bourbon, cocoa, tangy, malty, vanilla and a bit of chocolate syrup. The flavor was bourbon, sweet toasty malts, honey, vanilla, more bourbon and an odd off presence underneath. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Interesting but I was a bit disappointed.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from my buddy in Asheville. Poured into small snifters and shared with Dani and Brian at the Pig. Pours a deep amber brown with very little head. Mild ringing. Aroma is graham cracker, brown sugar, vanilla, cookie dough, chocolate chips, and bread. The taste was chocolate chip cookie dough, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, slight barrel, and chocolate. Finish is flavorful and fairly light. Medium to light in body. I like a little more full body on this style but that’s my only complaint. Very nice flavor profiles.

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a snifter. Black with dark brown highlights and big light brown head. Aroma is big vanilla, medium body, medium carbonation, and pretty good small-bubble lacing. Taste is vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, some caramel, and hints of oak. Lots of flavor, nice vanilla aroma, nice amount of barrel for me, one of my favorite porters.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
Pours dark brown and sits near black and opaque in the glass. Large frothy head is semi-durable and leaves a fairly full coat of lacing on the glass.
Appealing aroma features BBL, dark roasted grains, and dark fruits.
Flavor: BBL and fainter dark bread and a hint of vanilla. Too much bourbon flavor in the finish and aftertaste, but then others will find this attractive no doubt.
Drinks big despite the modest 5.8% ABV.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep brown with fluffy tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is nice barrel notes, vanilla and chocolate over oak, hint of musty funk. Taste is less of the odd, more of a nice porter with good barrel qualities. Thin mouth, hint of soy, light bitterness. Pretty solid.

On tap at heaven and ale. One of the best bourbon barrel beers I have had. Very smooth. Can definitely taste the bourbon.

On tap at the brewer. This one goes up to 11. So dark, almost black. Aroma is mild, doesn’t boast about what’s to come. Very heavy in the mouth and full of flavor. Amazing taste. You can definitely taste the bourbon. Foothills Brewing makes an amazing porter to start with and this only builds on that. Absolutely amazing.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a big, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some bourbon and oak and vanilla, some chocolate, light coffee, and light bitterness. Flavor the same with a nice blend of the bourbon and the base porter. Average to smoother texture. A solid barrel-aged beer.
