on tap at the Busy Bee 01/22/11. Knob creek barrel. Real good aroma, bourbon and chocolate. Blackish brown color, good head, ok lace. Sweet, bourbon flavor. Medium body, smooth oily creamy mouthfeel, sweet dry finish. Strong barrel in both aroma and flavor with classic peoples porter tastiness. good stuff.

Dark and roasty, not dominated by burbon in the nose. The flavor is als balanced. The barrel has brought out a lot of vanilla and oak. Nice.

Not my favorite of the night. Seemed too thin and boozy, with not enough porter to back it up. Aroma was good, bourbon, wood, vanilla, chocolate, and malt. Texture was good as well. Just too hot and slightly unbalanced. I only got a hint of roast and chocolate in the taste and I wish there had been more. I think this could be good with time, but too young and hot for my tastes.

Pint at Universal Joint. This is a near black and viscous beer. The aroma is strong with bourbon all over the place. The porter is strong enough to add something to the bourbon notes, but oak, vanilla and booze are the most prominent aromas. The palate is creamy with a full flavor of oak, vanilla, weak coffee, and earth. Seriously bourbon-like brew, but rich and enjoyable.

The color is a deep, dark chocolate brown, and the aroma only gives a hint of the added bourbon sweetness on top of the toasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, and black coffee from the porter base. The flavor has barely a sign of the roasted, chocolaty malt profile that is found in the unadulterated version, however, with the whiskey flavor overpowering. The texture is a bit thin, but the overall drinkability is terrific.

Draft at EBF in Pappy Van Winkle Barrels. Pours a dark brown body with garnet hues and an off white head. Sweet malty, scotch, woody dry with some alcohol. Damp wood, some light smoke, stale milk with a dry mellow woody finish. interesting enough.

From sampler flight at Foothills. Very strong bourbon aroma and flavor makes this a completely different beer. More of a sipping than a quaffing beer. Another excellent one from Foothills.

Bottle from Justin in trade. BBL was much better overall. I felt like the normal porter was lacking flavor. Aroma and flavor was of light roast coffee and bourbon. Pretty thin, but the flavors were good in this one. Very nice beer.
