Deep black with a thin tan cap. Big cocoa and malty boozy syrups on the nose, a bit of boozy coffee. Big roasty flavor with some earthy bitter cocoa, finishes a little chocolaty and oddly bitter. Lots of chocolate but still bitter and boozy and roasty.

’15 batch in ’15. Pours black but not as thick as I expected. Light coffee crema colored ring. Nose of piney hops, oak barrel, dark chocolate, light vanilla. Taste follows, well balanced and not nearly as sweet as I expected. Feel odd saying this about a beer I’m giving a 4 but was a bit let down by this.

Dark brown. Aroma has a fair bit of chocolate. Sweet, very rich with molasses, big woody character, toffee..some really rich dark malt character. Finishes fairly syrupy, really boozy and intense.

Bottle. Pours deep opaque black with a small, rather fizzy, frothy beige head. Settles as a thin film. Aroma has sweet malts, licorice, vanilla, oak, roasted malts, light raisins, mild tobacco. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has smoke, lots of chocolate, cocoa, oak, rather sweet. Nice.

Bottle shared at dbarnold’s, 10/31/15. Dark brown with a lasting brown head and drippy lace. Lots of chocolate here, not a ton of bourbon, just a strong stout with a nice malty flavor and light bitterness. Still, a very nice beer.

Bottle from Steven. 2012. Mellow and chill. Lots of toasty malt. Smooth chocolate. Bittersweet. A little bit molasses. Finish is a little light and maybe a little oxidized.

Bottle share at Tom’s house. Poured a black oil into a small snifter with a light tan head. Aroma is big chocolate, hint of vanilla, bourbon oak barrel, booze, and some light roast. Taste is very big chocolate up front, moving to some spices like anise, and then some vanilla and oak barrel. FInishes fairly booze hot. Big body, chewy. Moderate carb. I thought it was good but a little boozy for 10%.

22 oz bottle shared by Spencer. 2013 vintage, or at least that's what the bottle has written on it. The pour is a dark oily black with a dark khaki collar of head and no lace. The aroma is pretty heavy on the chocolate. There is a bit of licorice and some pretty good roast, but the barrel induces a lot of booze and a hint of vanilla. The whiskey is pretty heavy on this one. The flavor is pretty laid back from what I was expecting. There is a good amount of chocolate and malts. The barrel is much more reserved. There is a light wood and a decent vanilla with a heavily subdued booze character. Light char brings up the back. The mouth feel is thin and light with a light carbonation and it's just slick. The aftertaste is quick fading and mostly milk chocolate, with a little roast. I wanted it to be so much more ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lots of chocolate in here, milk chocolate. Pours black with good head and lacing. A little on the syrupy side. Pretty sweet. Tap at Snallygaster.
