Nice pour with big frothy tan head. Nose of cocoa bourbon booze. Thick body with malt forward taste lingering into cocoa and oak. Finishes with boozy bourbon cocoa. Lingers on the palate with tons of bourbon cocoa. Could be better with longer barrel aging.

Bottle from trade - thanks blazay. Pours clear dark brown, like cola, thin white head. Immediate gust of vanilla and bourbon, fudge, dark chocolate. Palate is disappointing - thin and gluggable rather than thick and unctuous. A touch of oil but otherwise feels lightweight. Intitially rich and sweet, milk chocolate. Chunky fudge flavour along with bitter baker’s chocolate, only a hint of bourbon. Some vanilla and oak. Slight molasses bite and cacao on the finish. It’s good, but not great

Many thanks to Ron, ’12 Vintage. Pours a black color with red offshoot and almost no head, while the beer leaves back a nice lacing. Smells like a really heavy beer, despite its abv being around 10 %. Has rich chocolate aromas, a blend of bakers and milk chocolate, accompanied by earthy malts, slightly bitter coffee, marzipan and dried apple peel. The Bourbon wraps up all these flavors very gently with a hot oakiness, while being very inviting and intense on itself. Bourbon and chocolate blend together outstandingly well, enriching each other, while apple skin and fudge compliment to the chocolate character generously. Tastes of smooth milk chocolate, with an outstandingly creamy, mouthfeel, brownies and fudge, along molasses and nougat, blending together very smoothly and convincing. These flavors get successfully balanced by calming, earthy, slightly toasted malts. The chocolate then gets a alcoholic Bourbon note to it, just as in the nose, with hot wood blending extremely well into the rich chocolate qualities of the beer. This reveals molasses, wood and a well wrapped up rich chocolate character. The beers incredible chocolate richness gets joined by a hot, boozy peak in the finish with caramel and a well fitting, lower carbonation, and a hot dryness.

Sample courtesy of the bartender at Dilly during Cincinnati Beer Week. The beer pours a deep brown-black color with a medium thick foamy tan head that dissipates gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of oaky bourbon, roast malt and chocolate. Full-bodied with a boozy bourbon character and notes of sweet malt, vanilla and chocolate. The finish is oaky vanilla and malt. Enjoyable beer all around.

2010 Vintage
Tasted on 8/31/13 from a 22oz bottle. Pours nearly black with an average brown head that slowly recedes to average, smooth lace. The nose is dominated by roast and dark chocolate with the vanilla, caramel, and barrel underlying. The flavor is a really balanced imperial stout that has enough roast and dark chocolate to counter the inherent malty and barrel sweetness. The body is full with average, stinging carbonation, and a long dark chocolate and barrel finish. This was drinking very well for the age at the time.

Poured from bottle to Glass. Dark hue with creamy tan head that dissipated to a ring. Aroma is prune, caramel, toffee, molasses, oak, vanilla, bourbon. Mouthfeel is great with full body and medium carbonation. Taste is sweet with a Woody finish. Overall this is a big, sweet brew.

650 ml bottle from trade with Beerman. Thanks. September 2014 batch. Pours an opaque black color with a medium sized khaki head that has very good retention. The aroma is big and bold with Chocolates, whiskey, vanilla and mocha. The taste features more chocolates, chocolate liqueur, anise, dark fruits and bitter walnuts. There is some bourbon whiskey in the taste too, but it is in the background and plays a superb supporting role. The palate is full, viscous and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Its OK.

Pours an opaque black from the bomber with thin tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma is big bourbon barrel nose, chocolate and vanilla, hint of roast as it warms. Taste is just all kinds of vanilla and chocolate amazing, sweet but not cloying. Booze is warming as it goes down, thick and chewy, damn tasty.

Bomber chugged in well under 2 minutes. Poured basically black. Smelled roasty, oaky, vanilla and bourbon. Taste was sweet and lightly bitter. Flavors of oak, roast, booze, marshmallow. Finished quick with some lingering barrel and sugar. Good.
