22oz bottle from notes. Pours a typical oily, thick black with a sustained dark khaki head. Pleasant aroma: bittersweet chocolate, s’mores, vanilla, dried wood, toasted marshmallow. Light char. Flavor is full of cocoa, vanilla, wood, light char, ash with a kiss of melted chocolate. Fairly silky and creamy texture. Low carbonation with a slightly boozy finish. A simple, but well put together BA Impy. Thanks Greg!

Tap at Snallyghaster 2016 showing pitch black with half a finger of latte colored foam. The nose shows barely anything except a few notes of soy sauce. The palate is full bodied - very oily and slick with full but very smooth carbonation. Strong undertones of dark chocolate. Vanilla forward with light notes of bourbon and a light burnt dark chocolate bitterness on the finish.

I have had the"normal" version of this fantabulous beer. Barrel aged takes everything up to 11!

4oz sampler (twice) at Brusin’ Ales in Asheville. Black pour, light brown head. Nose is bourbon, dark chocolate, light fudge, light caramel. Taste is sweet from the vanilla/bourbon & caramel, with great bitterness from the chocolate and some espresso. Wow - well blended and put together. Not much of an alcohol presence with all of that either. Finishes well blended between bitter and sweet, and long. This was very enjoyable, and well worth a 12 hour trip. 16.8

Draft taster at bruisin ales..wonderful aroma..wow, this is a big step up from regular version, aroma is barrel goodness, cocoa, cream, marshmallow, mouthfeel medium bodied with a definite feel of the high abv, a very tasty barrel aged stout, however drinking this in warm weather in July, couldn’t pass up the chance however

2016 bottle from Matthew Dick himself: Basically black with a lovely beige head. A good amount of fresh bourbon and tannic oak. Bakers chocolate, heavy roast and persimmon fruit. Much more acidic than I expected frankly. There is a brief interlude of ashy burnt notes as well. This could do with a tad more richness and sweetness IMO. Still I hardly would kick it outta bed.
