22oz bottle from notes. Pours a typical oily, thick black with a sustained dark khaki head. Pleasant aroma: bittersweet chocolate, s’mores, vanilla, dried wood, toasted marshmallow. Light char. Flavor is full of cocoa, vanilla, wood, light char, ash with a kiss of melted chocolate. Fairly silky and creamy texture. Low carbonation with a slightly boozy finish. A simple, but well put together BA Impy. Thanks Greg!

2016 bottle from Matthew Dick himself: Basically black with a lovely beige head. A good amount of fresh bourbon and tannic oak. Bakers chocolate, heavy roast and persimmon fruit. Much more acidic than I expected frankly. There is a brief interlude of ashy burnt notes as well. This could do with a tad more richness and sweetness IMO. Still I hardly would kick it outta bed.

650ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2015 vintage, thanks to Brian Parker! Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is subtle bourbon, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, caramel, molasses, dar dried fruits and wood. Taste is medium bitter and medium sweet. Full bodied, oilyish texture, soft carbonation. Finish is warming alcohol and just the right amount of bourbon. Seems much more balanced than the non BA version.

Aroma of oak and some chocolate. Flavor is nicely balanced. Chocolate, fruit flavors, and a little prune. Some heat at the end. Over rated.

Bottle from 2012. Pours opaque black, small beige head, dissipates with decent residual and lacing. Aroma is cocoa, molasses and bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet, light plus bitter, molasses, cocoa, vanilla and prominent bourbon dominate the flavor profile. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. The first sip seemed rather heavy handed with the Bourbon, but its getting better as it breathes.

Deep black with a thin tan cap. Big cocoa and malty boozy syrups on the nose, a bit of boozy coffee. Big roasty flavor with some earthy bitter cocoa, finishes a little chocolaty and oddly bitter. Lots of chocolate but still bitter and boozy and roasty.

’15 batch in ’15. Pours black but not as thick as I expected. Light coffee crema colored ring. Nose of piney hops, oak barrel, dark chocolate, light vanilla. Taste follows, well balanced and not nearly as sweet as I expected. Feel odd saying this about a beer I’m giving a 4 but was a bit let down by this.

Dark brown. Aroma has a fair bit of chocolate. Sweet, very rich with molasses, big woody character, toffee..some really rich dark malt character. Finishes fairly syrupy, really boozy and intense.
