3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 womencantsail (7100) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - OCT 10, 2010A: The pour is fairly viscous and black with a substantial tan colored head.
S: Sweet vanilla and chocolate come through as does quite a bit of sweet caramel, oak, and bourbon. The roast is not quite as pronounced as in the regular version and this seems a lot more well rounded.
T: The flavor is quite smooth as well, though maybe not as much as the nose. Sweet milk chocolate, vanilla, roast, and bourbon. The bourbon flavor itself as not quite as intense as I would have imagined, but the alcohol is definitely noticeable.
M: The body is maybe a bit thin, which I wasn’t expecting from the pour. It’s still decent enough, though, and the carbonation is fairly smooth.
D: I think I preferred this to regular version, despite its pitfalls. The nose was really quite nice, and the beer tasted good as well.

Bottle (22 oz). Thanks to the guy who shared this at Hill Farmstead pre-3rd anniversary bottle share. Black with a small brown head and little lacing. Aroma of vanilla, milk chocolate, coconut, bourbon, red fruits and slight hoppy presence. Taste is moderately sweet with milk chocolate, bourbon, coconut, vanilla, red fruits, wood and slight bitter finish. Medium to full body. Alcohol is well hidden. Smooth and chewy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Quite complex. Well balanced. Drinkable for a BA RIS. Good stuff!
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 AirForceHops (1922) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - APR 27, 2013
Vintage 2011. Another great bottle
Share from A.J. Nose is a subtle notes of bourbon and hints of
Chocolate malt. Taste is vanilla, milk chocolate, charred ash with lots of sweet bourbon toward the finish. Mouthfeel is slightly on the flat side. Booze is completely hidden at the this point.
Flavor has blended well and is really easy to drink. Body is on the full side. My rating number 1800. A really nice Impy stout.

2011 - 6/26 in a wine glass at cellar temp.
A - Semi-viscous pour, half a finger head that fades faster than it takes to form
S - I get some burnt cedar, chocolate and prune juice. Vanilla bean and basic bourbon
T - Taste is pretty thin almost like a baltic porter. Heavy bourbon presence which is very smooth. Loads of vanilla and bitter chocolate at the finish
M - thick carbonation on the mouth feel, medium body and a very bitter finish.
O - Impressive but it seems like this is more of a boozy porter than an imperial stout.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DrSilverworm (2943) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 21, 2013
22oz bottle, 2011 vintage, shared by Nate. "6/27" written on the back. Black / dark brown color. Thin lighter brown head. Spread of lace. Vanilla, some brownie in the nose. Nice aroma. Nice smooth lighter carbonation. Bigger body. Pleasantly chewy, but no lingering viscosity. Good dark chocolate. More bitter taste. Light bittersweet in the finish. Alcohol very well hidden. Good, tasty stuff.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nocturne (391) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2013
650ml bottle from 2012. Near black with a short brown head. This is all about bourbon-soaked dark fruitiness on the nose, plus a little bit of campfire. As for chocolate those notes are fainter and lean towards powdery baking chocolate. Oily mouthfeel with barrel featuring notably in the taste. Nothing majorly distinctive really leapt out out at me here, but it doesn’t do anything wrong and isn’t overly sweet. Dark fruits are present again but chocolate doesn’t come to mind; then again the American stuff is different to what I’m used to. A nice imperial stout overall, but not something I’m desperate to sample again.

Bottle for my 300th rating (silly, I know!). Black pour with a touch of a tan head. Bourbon and roasted chocolate nose. Bourbon-forward, not too boozy (though this spent about 1.5 years in the cellar). Some nice vanilla in the aftertaste too. Quite good!
