Draft at Appalachian vintner. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam. Nice roasted malt and oak notes on the nose. Fairly big Bourbon note on the tongue that gets more prominent and bold as it warms. Finish lingers a bit. Listed at 7% but feels bigger. Nice!

On tap at the ISIS in Asheville. Pours oily black with a retentive frothy tan head that leaves thick lacing. The nose has roasts and chocolates. A big wallop of bourbon accompanies choco-roasted notes, a hint of smoke and dark malts. The finish comes back to a bourbon close. Full bodied and silky to the palate, it's rich and yummy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Multiple draft samples. Dark brown almost black color with a tan head. Smells like roasted malts and bourbon. Little bit of chocolate too. Smooth, coffee bourbon flavor. Refreshing, if that is possible. Really good stout

Cybercat (2986) - Georgia, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Comes out of the tap a luscious opaque sable with a good tan head. Aroma has an overtone of bourbon - no surprise there - but this does not drown out the roast malt, coffee and molasses notes. Flavor has bourbon, roast malt, nutty, coffee and chocolate notes. Texture is a it thin for a stout, but has good fizz and leaves a smoky malt and molasses finish. Definitely worthy.

Pint at Tyler’s Apex. Good aroma, sweet. Barrel and chocolate. Dark orange brown color. Ok head and lace. Sweet bitter flavor. Medium body, smooth creamy, bittersweet finish. Good ba beer. Not overpowering. Real good balance in flavor of barrel and chocolate. Very drinkable.

Draft at Mellow- mild malty aroma and black, thin pour with a muted taste of bourbon and mild aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Nothing special. Very bland. My money is on used three time barrels or too short of a time span. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft @ Busy Bee (Raleigh) Deep rich brown color with minimal head. Strong coffee flavor without quit being excessively overpowering. Great stout worth getting a 2nd of. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught. Pours a near black color with a fairly small off-white head. Nose has a smack of bourbon in it that masks a lot of other notes in the smell. Taste has a bit of roasting in there, but is dominated by the bourbon. I like the normal version better, personally.

Originally reviewed: 5/20/10. In celebration of "craft beer week," Foothills decided to pull out this big boy again. The bartender told me that this was aged in barrels that had previously aged another beer. This came out a muddy brown/black. Not as dark as I expected. No head at all. No lace. Big vanilla scents in this one. Some oak, bourbon, and a bit of toasted brown sugar. The body is slightly crisp, maybe a bit too much. Could be a little creamier IMO. The bourbon notes are toned down a bit as these barrels had been previously used. I like that. The bourbon isn’t too overpowering. Some light wood aspects noted. There’s a slight hop presence as well. Very nice. Lots of chocolate, bread, and vanilla. This is one of the best BBA beers I’ve ever had. Well done, Foothills. Though this is only at 7.0%, I feel it. Sip this one.
