Reviewed from notes. On tap at the Sexual Chocolate release in February 2010. Poured into my mini snifter. Color is black with a tan head and a touch of lacing. The nose brings some really nice notes from the bourbon-barrel aging, with bourbon, oak, and vanilla coming through along with some chocolate and roast. Taste is mostly bourbon and chocolate in a really nice combination. Good heavy feel. I preferred this to Sexual Chocolate and was really glad to have tried it. A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, a smooth musky chocolate, light soy sauce, a bit salty, not bad. In mouth, a nice smooth and bitter chocolate, with toasted coffee beans, not very bourbon barrel-like but good nonetheless. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.

LCBS 2010. Dark brown pour, rich tan head. Aroma is pure on top shelf bourbon, vanill and chocolate. Light roast. Flavor is creamy, sweet bourbon, rich oak, vanilla and toffee. Another beauty.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2010 Yet another crazy growler shared by Johnathan at LCBS 10. One word, two syllables bourbon. The beer had a great bourbon nose, and a mellow bourbon, vanilla, and roasted malt flavor. Well done...

A: The pour is a dark brown color, nearly black, with a finger’s worth of tan head. S: Lots of roasted malts, vanilla, and chocolate. The bourbon provides a nice booze note and some oak, too. T: The roasted character is quite intense on the palate, giving off an almost charred flavor. Underneath there is a good chocolate flavor, some hints of caramel and vanilla, and bourbon. M: The body is a little on the thin side from an imperial stouts. A moderate carbonation to go with it. D: A pretty nice imperial stout, though I would have actually preferred a bit more bourbon character (surprisingly).

Growler thanks to womencantsail. Pours with a black body and a small tan head. Aroma is chalky, dry, estery with some alcohol. Taste is barrel, some alcohol, vanilla and chocolate. A bit of wood tannins. Lively bubbles, medium bodied. Good.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2013 Sampled on draft at Brewvival. Pours a near black with large foam brown head. Looks gorgeous. And the aroma was okay, big and oaky and roasty, but not great. Flavor was a bit more dissappointing as it had almost no discernable regular eclipse characteristics. Just a LOT of bourbon, and whisky burning notes. The barrels definitely contributed more than they should have, and seemingly overtook the base beer. It was interesting to taste such a boozy brew, but I wouldn’t want to drink this again. EDIT: sampled again on draft at Trio. Much better this time. Still bourbon heavy, but more like vanilla and cocoa. No burning. But still not an amazing beer or anything.

Growler. Courtesy of Mothman. Pours a nice dark brown black color with a slight tan head. Subtel yet strong aroma of bourbon in the nose. Mouthfeel seems a little on the light side. Good bourbon taste along with hints of coffee and vanilla. Smooth. Drinkable but again, for me, I wish the mouthfeel was just a tinge heavier to really make this a knockout.
