Draft at Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal hops with faint caramel and roasted malts. The taste is herbal, resin hops, nutty notes and toffee malts. Medium bodied with a mild lingering bitterness.

Citrusy and roasty aromas. Dark brown with a fading, beige head. Bitter, roasty and dry. Light-medium body, decent carbonation, and with an abrupt, roasty finish. A bit lighter than most black IPAs.

Had this one on-tap at the brewpub. Light ruby edges make this one just less-than-black. A nice small cap of foam on top leaves perfect sip rings on the glass edge. Excellent nose bursting with notes of pine scent, citrus, fresh crushed hop pellets. Great inviting hoppy scent! Good body. Not too thick, easy to drink. Moderate carbonation. Well-balanced. Juicy, flavorful hops make up the bulk of this one. Nice bitter pop to it, but great citrusy flavor. Some mild cocoa-like sweetness noted, a little dry character on the finish. A good dark bitter beer. I like this one better than their standard IPA I think. Nice work retooling this one, Foothills.

Aroma of warm maple syrup and bread. Jet black in color with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Tastes like dark roast coffee and plenty of hop spice. Really bitter finish. Lovely beverage.

frylock (1127) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Nearly black, thin tan head, lots of sediment. Aroma is primarily roasted barley and coffee with some faint hoppy notes. Moderate hop bitterness, touches of roast... not a whole lot going on. Very average black IPA.

bubbleflubber (1423) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Pours the deepest ruby with a tan head that leaves window-wash lacing. The nose is of deep pine. Flavors are of roasted grain, pine needle tea, coffee, citrus, with a clean bitter pine finish. The mouthfeel is round with a medium body. A nicely bitter and roasted Black IPA. Goes down well, tasty and thoroughly enjoyable.

bottle, from Triangle wine. good aroma, sweet, roasty. dark orangy brown color, good head that faded to ring, good lace. Bitter sweet flavor, mediun body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish, pretty darn tasty. very interesting with aroma. citrus, pine, roasted malt all come into play. flavor is more on the roasted bitter side. nice change to the Frostbite.
