COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Embrace the long winter nights in the company of Frostbite Black IPA. A careful blend of barley and roasted wheat malts deliver a clean finish, backed up by a big blast of Pacific North West aroma hops.

Bottle. Decent enough beer. Enjoyed the old frostbite more. Not sure why Foothills is changing these beers up?

Tap at Suttree’s. Pours deep mahogany with a fairly sturdy white head. Aroma is a mix of spruce, coffee, and a touch of licorice. Flavor is pretty much the same, with an odd spicy note added. Seems to lose and crispness as it warms.

Pint on tap and 12 oz. bottle. Opaque ebony with a lasting film of creamy bubbles. Big nose of grapefruit and orange zest, pine resin, and coffee. Taste is big citrus, resin, earthy mocha, and mineral water. Near-medium body is soft and roasty-dry, but is a little sticky at times and has flare-ups due to over-carbonation. Maybe that was intentional to help balance the stickiness, but I prefer sticky to overly fizzy. Still a pretty tasty beer.

Pours deep deep brown with some brown light bodied head. Nose is big piney resinous, and citrus tropical fruits. Flavor is roast chocolate, fruits, citrus, flowers and bitter hops. Dry bitter roasty finish and light bodied. A little light in the body but good hop profile.

Before this beer was reinvented as a black IPA, it seemed like an interesting hybrid of a hoppy amber and a strong ale. Now it’s been tweaked to resemble a style that’ll probably be gone in a few years, and mostly lacks the complexity of some of the finer examples out there. Bitter, piney, not without character; just nothing to send you on a return trip.

Draft, and multiple bottles. Dark black with a tan head. Very strong hop nose with some roasted malts involved. Easy to drink, reminds me of hoppyum with dark malts. Good beer, but i usually opt for something else.

On tap at brewery, light cola color, Nice head and lacing, with some smoke. balanced and not too hoppy. More of a porter.

Draft at Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal hops with faint caramel and roasted malts. The taste is herbal, resin hops, nutty notes and toffee malts. Medium bodied with a mild lingering bitterness.

Citrusy and roasty aromas. Dark brown with a fading, beige head. Bitter, roasty and dry. Light-medium body, decent carbonation, and with an abrupt, roasty finish. A bit lighter than most black IPAs.
