3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours an almost black color with a moderate off-white (and quickly disappearing) head. Nose is a little hoppy with some pine notes in it, though the malts smooth it out. Maltier than I expected - no real bitterness to this at all.

I liked the balance between chocolate malt and hops. Neither over powered you.
From site: Embrace the long winter nights in the company of Frostbite Black IPA. A careful blend of barley and roasted wheat malts deliver a clean finish, backed up by a big blast of Pacific North West aroma hops.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
Roasted coffee allusions and toasted cereals meet hop resins in this balanced, smooth Black IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark brown.
-This is as drinkable as most Foothills brews.
-The nose may be linear, but this remains balanced and enjoyable throughout.
-The texture is smooth.
On tap at the Foothills brewpub.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A dark brown ipa with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice bitter chocolate with coffee grind, floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate malt with coffee grind, musty floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice. On tap at brewpub.

Not sure if this is a collaboration with Cottonwood as i thought but it was a decent BIPA. Good hops and a decent bite.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle served in a snifter.
Pours near black with a decent head that has some legs and leaves bands of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: as expected hops, an an IPA level, with some sweet and dark malts.
Flavor: about equal mix of dark and very dark roasted grains and earthy/herbal hops. Medium bitterness. Both hops anddark roast linger on and on in the aftertaste.
O: fairly easy drinking and tame black IPA, yet flavorful, as the malts and hops partly neutralize each other.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft to pint. Looks good; a translucent dark cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, dark chocolate, roast, and citrus hops. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. A bit more bitter than I’d prefer, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle: good representation of a BIPA. Dark in color with a strong roasted malt vs. hops. Good brew.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured into a pint glass out of a growler.
Pours a very deep, dark brown with a one finger light tan head. The head retention is better than average with pretty decent lacing as well.
Aroma is a nearly perfect example of what an American Black Ale should be. Toasted malt and dark roasted coffee mixed with pine with along with just the slightest touch of citrus. Very nice.
The hops become more readily apparent in the flavor compared to the aroma. Lots of pine and earth with just the slightest hint of orange peel. Some minty notes too but all quickly overtaken by a very high bitterness. The pine lingers through the bitterness as does the roast and coffee which is constantly present in the background. Just a slightly sticky finish.
Overall, this is a really good beer and much better than I thought it would be. I am really a fan of this style and this is one of the better examples I have had.
