3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TURDFERGUSON (2759) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - APR 7, 2007
Growler from the brewery. Thanks for picking this up Anthony! I’ve had the seeing double many times and expected some good things from this, their regular ipa. Pours clearer than most ipa’s I have been drinking with a little white head and okay lacing. Aroma is piney hops though its a little bit subdued. Flavor is similar with floral and citrus hops also apparent and a light, bready, malt backbone. Fine, unoffensive, easy drinking. But I was still left wanting a little more.

500mL hand bottled swingtop from BleacherBum, thank you Ryan. I was instructed to open this beer first just in case the carbonation wouldn’t hold, but it did fine. Pours a crystal clear honey golden with a one finger slighty frothy eggshell head, decent retention. Some lacing does cling, though not a huge amount. Aroma of citrus and piney hops, grass, flower petals, light powdered sugar and a bit of biscuits. Flavor is more flower petals, a little less citrus, and a decent amount of biscuits to help balance this. Semidry finish with bitterness at a 6 (out of 10). Lighter in body with moderate carbonation. Pretty solid IPA overall. This beer tastes as much like GI IPA as anything I’ve had. You did good, Ryan!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BleacherBum (177) - Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA - MAR 4, 2007
Sweet hoppy aroma with hints of light citrus and pine. Clean, crisp flavors of hop, citrus and fresh cut grass. Aftertaste is malty while still being crisp and dry. No lingering bitterness on this one. Surprised at how drinkable this IPA is for as much flavor and balance it packs. Very light (in a good way). Smooth and refreshing! A great session IPA and yet another solid offering from a brewery that’s only been around for a couple of years. Love it.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler. Pours a translucent golden amber with a creamy off white slightly lacing head. Aroma of fresh citrus hop, caramel malt and some flowers. Flavor was very hoppy, pine, grapefruit, some caramel, earthiness and a decent amount of hop bitterness with hints of some caramel malt to balance.

Growler acquired as part of the Mystery Beer Swap v2.0 from Ty5592 (thanks!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy orange color with an averaged to smaller sized white head. Aroams of floral, fresh green hops, and some citrus. Tastes of pine, very light caramel and a bitter grapefruit finish. Medium bitter. I could see this one being a decent session IPA.

Sampled from a growler thanks to boboski on 7/2/06: Pours a clear bright orange copper with a thin whispy white head. Fresh green piny hoppy aroma has a drier earthy caramel malty balance. Body starts with a highly-carbonated, lightly sweet toasty caramel maltiness turning more fresh, crisp, piny and bitter toward the drier finish. A decent IPA.

(ABV correction: 6.3%) Almost no head on this one... neither on my sampler nor pint. Pours an orange-caramel color, and does leave trace lacing. The nose is of weak citrus and malts. This is well-bittered, without substantial malts. Notes of grapefruit in the pull, especially after coming back to this one after a few of the other brewery offerings. This misses out on a pine finish, but does offer a lingering dry bitterness.

An orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of grass and hops, and so is the flavor, leading to a dry end.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 SynergyXJ (510) - Blacksburg, Virginia, USA - NOV 22, 2006
Draught at Mellow Mushroom. Light amber pour with great head and lacing. Light citrusy hoppy aroma and very strong hoppy flavor with a long lasting aftertaste. Thick mouthfeel, but very clean.

On tap Knoxville Brewers Jam 06. A nice amber/orange pour. A weak light off white head with thick lacing. A nice malty flavor with a citrusy hops kicker. A very nice beer with the kind of bitter that stays with you without getting thick. I wish I had this beer earlier in the day.
