Yum! My goodness this beer never disappoints! Smells so yummy, lovely amberish color. The taste is fresh, fruity, kind of similar to foothills jade. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice to make your acquaintance, Foothills (and North Carolina). Hereís to hoping we share our time in the near future. Aside from the iconic label design, itís easy to see why Hoppyum is one of the better known brews by Foothills (itís no Sexual Chocolate, mind you, but itís got a reputation nonetheless.) With a piney, citrusy, and lightly bready aroma, Hoppyum smells like a West Coast style IPA. The flavor backs it up with pineapple, grapefruit, orange, pine needles, and some biscuit malt. Balance leans toward hop-forward, but the bitterness isnít overwhelming at all. "Do you like hops?" Yes, I do, Foothills. I like you, too.

Six pack from Food Lion in Myrtle Beach. Pours out a hazy medium amber color. Off white head that fades to almost nothing. Muddled earthy-pine-citrus aromas. Flavor is a complex mix of bitter pine, citrus, herbs and tropical fruits. Good malty backbone. Long lingering bitterness. Decent IPA.

Subdued aroma of hoppy herbal notes and caramel malts. Orangish bronze body with nice cap of foam. Burned malts and an earthy citrus taste (a little too much malt taste for me). Moderate carbonation, but overall, pretty smooth IPA.

Not much aroma. But a decent ipa. Sweet Carmel with a hop bite. Good mouthfeel. A bit harsh but a good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bottle served in a Unibroue snifter (from notes). Pours a clear deep amber with a sudsy bone head. Moderate retention and lacing from this head. Aroma: a nice complex hop aroma, clearly reflecting multiple varieties. Citrus and earthy/English (hops) notes. Taste: like the aroma, thereís a nice mix of several hop varieties here giving this more depth and complexity that many Amer. IPAs. No shortage of malt either, there being enough to really hold the bitterness in check despite the 75 IBUs indicated on the label. The flavor starts very juicy, then more bread, herbal and earthy notes appear. The finish is again nicely citrusy, with some lingering toasted malt. M: medium body with an exceptionally (for style) dry finish. Also quite smooth with no tongue burn. O: A special IPA that is flavorful and satisfying. Well crafted although the substantial malt load makes this less aggressively hoppy than some may prefer. One of the best Iíve had in this style, particularly if used as a session brew.

I had it from the bottle. The taste is a nice balance of hops, sweet malt, and grapefruit. The finish is dry, refreshing, and a little bitter. Itís a good offering.
