2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20 Onenote81 (902) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 24, 2012
Originally reviewed: 5/24/10. A new addition to their "Session" series. This one a Blonde Ale. Came out a cloudy dark gold with just a thin white head on top. No lace left behind. Can’t get a lot from the scent. Some toasted grains and black pepper. Not what I expected.
The body is crisp with a smooth finish. Like the Session Brown, this beer is way overly-hopped and spicy. I was expecting a crisp, clean, refreshing ale as the style usually is characterized by. But this beer was heavy, bitter, and a little throat scalding on the peppery spiciness. I couldn’t have more than one of these, that’s for sure. It was a chore to get one down. Foothills’ definition of "session ale" is far different than mine. This was different. I won’t be revisiting this one, but others may like it. To each their own...
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 OldGrowth (1860) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 23, 2010
pint 12/26 at Foothills brewpub. Good aroma, little sweet cereal and floral/grassy hop notes. Hazed brownish orange color, ok head that faded quick. mildly bitter flavor. Thin body, lite mouthfeel, bitter finish. Easy to drink, Happy to bump into this, hope other brewers think about session beers...
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Butters (3014) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 16, 2010
Sampled on draft at the brewery. The brewer simply called it "Session" Semi-clear golden pour with good fading offwhite head. Nose is clean, crisp, floral, citrus, grassy, butter. Flavor of noble hops, very grassy. Something like a crisp and hoppy bud. Good to start people on craft beer. Appearantly, this was the same recipe as the "Session Dark", but just with different malt.
