Originally reviewed: 9/17/08. Had this on tap at the brewery itself. It was very disappointing in appearance. This brew had a nice copper/amber color to it, but came with absolutely no head. There wasn’t even a ring of lace to speak of.
The smell was average at best. Some citrus as well as the toasted character of the drink pulled through.
What it lacked it looks it made up for in taste. This brew was crisp and clean. It was definitely well-carbonated. It left a slight bite on the tongue. Could taste the toasted malt, as well as some caramel. Very easy to drink and enjoy. Paired very well with my Pub Melt. Mmmmm...
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TURDFERGUSON (2758) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - NOV 27, 2011
Had this numerous times at Speakeasy in Carrboro. Pours amber with a sudsy slightly off-white head. Nose is malty, caramel, slightly bready and grainy, light maple syrup. Flavor is slightly metallic up front, some more sweetness, notes of rye, but overall kinda watery and dull. But I’m not a big fan of the style anyway. Alcohol could stand to be a little lower. Not sure what typical marzens are supposed to be abv-wise, but I can’t really imagine sessioning this at 6.3%.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 DrinkEmUpJones (675) - Georgia, USA - OCT 9, 2011
This beer pours a clear orange/amber color. There are notes of pasta, grain, and savory meat spice on the nose. The palate comes across as a little boring with some spice but coming up flat overall. No finish makes this beer fairly uninteresting.

Draft at flying saucer. Pours darkish brown with an inch of khaki foam. Slight maltiness on the nose. Big nutty flavor on the tongue with all the malt you’d expect from the style. Not bad.

Draft numerous times. Dark red colored pour with a tan head on it. Smell is malty and kind of hoppy with a little bit of alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty with a little bit of toffee in it. Easy to drink and not overly sweet and coying like some Oktoberfest beers are. I actually liked this one, which is rare for me considering this is one of my least favorite styles.
