An English-style Robust Porter – Dark Brown in color with a ruby hue – Chocolate and sweet toffee aroma – Firm unsweetened chocolate flavor with moderate notes of caramel and toffee, an herbal hop bitterness up front and a slight note of espresso in the finish.

Draft sample at Knoxville Brewers Jam 2010. Brown in the glass with a thin tan head that settled to a ring. Aroma of milk chocolate and a slight roastiness. The flavor had chocolate with a decent hop backing. Light to medium body and a malt aftertaste.

Such a good beer. $2.50 pints at Leesville Taphouse. Jet black. Small but solid tan head. Slight roasty character. Nice and dry, not overly sweet or heavy. It really reminds me a lot of the tmavy lezáks (dark dunkels) of the czech republic vs. traditional english porter.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2011 Rerate after draft at barley’s On draft at Flying Saucer in Columbia. Can’t find my notes but it was very dark, very roasty and very tasty.

Poured from my home kegerator, the color is a deep, dark chocolate brown that is barely translucent around the edges, and a big, thick head that takes a while to dissipate, leaving a ton of lacing all over the inside of the glass. The aroma has some toasted malts and hints of bittersweet chocolate and black coffee. The bitter coffee and chocolate continue through the flavor, with the overall taste being somewhat similar to Guinness (in a good way) but with a more roasted character and greater depth of flavor. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but the overall drinkability is terrific.

Serving: Draft. It pours a medium to dark brown with ruby highlights and a decent tan head. Good lacing left behind. The nose is robust with notes of coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and perhaps a touch of fruitiness. The flavor is solid with the coffee, light chocolate, toffee, and berry notes playing together well. Medium bodied leading to a medium, mildly bitter finish. Overall a solid porter that I would certainly be willing to have again.

On tap at Foothills. Lots of dry alkaline roasty bitterness in both aroma and taste. A bit ashy. I guess it is better than being acidic and ashy.

Great beer and I was surprised by the heavy, deep body and flavor by this brew. Great caramel head with a deep, dark pour with a malty roasty aroma. Was a little too far into my assorted choices of imperial stouts and porters at the Saucer for this to be an accurate rating but I enjoyed the chocolaty, earthy flavor and I just love foothills.

On tap at Foothills. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some chocolate and a hint of smoke. Dark chocolate and coffee flavor with a definite smoky malt presence. Creamy mouthfeel. This is very good.
