Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a half-inch, dark beige foam cap. Smell: Heavy on the roast, cocoa and chewy caramel backed with a soft, subtle fruitiness. Taste: Bitterish flavor of cocoa powder and roasted malt with a vein of dark caramel sweetness. Slightly nutty. A touch of hop bitterness. Earthy, espresso-y taste. PP finishes out fairly bitterish and roasty. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Decent, drinkable.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2016 Draft. Big chocolate aroma, big chocolate flavors with a hint of an espresso chaser, maybe a bit of vanilla too. Nothing subtle about this!

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a one finger frothy light brown head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is pretty nice, lots of chocolate malt with lighter roast and dark fruit. The flavor is a bit heavy on the burnt and roasted malt for my tastes in the style. The heavy chocolate note that was in the nose is not there in the flavor. This really tastes more stout-like than it does a porter. Medium bodied with just a slight cling on the finish and soft fizzy carbonation. Meh, I thought I’d like this one a little more than I did.

Classic porter style. Heavy roasted and mildly bitter. Chocolate notes. Not hoppy. Darker than most. Pours with small head. Creamy and smooth. Very drinkable for one or more in a night. Draft and bottle.

undated 650 ml bomber bottle (nice label) served in a snifter (from notes). A: The beer is clear, but a very dark reddish-brown. It poured with a small tan head that reduced to little more than a ring but left spotty lacing down the sides of the glass. S: Moderate level of dark malts with hints of coffee, chocolate and molasses in the nose. Very slight metallic/astringent component initially, but this disappeared after warming/airing. T: Dominated by dark roasted malts, the rich flavor has some light spice and bitterness from the hops. Some mild coffee appears in the slightly earthy finish and long-lasting aftertaste. M: Medium-body leaning towards full; Moderate level of carbonation; Near creamy smooth; Slight dryness in finish. O: A flavorful, roasty porter which, after warming at least, has none of the flaws found too often in porters (e.g., too smokey; burnt notes). More complex and satisfying than most porters, this is an excellent example of an Amer./English porter.

Pours black with a khaki head. Aroma is earthy, dark chocolate, roast and hints of vanilla. Taste is bittersweet. Medium bodied, slick texture and an overall excellent porter.
