CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a frothy, nicely-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malts and some dark fruity notes. Starts fairly full and dark malty sweet with an earthy bittersweet dark chocolate balance. Finishes slightly drier with nice light roasty notes. Good balance of malty sweetness throughout. hopscotch (4595), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 5, 2008 Growler... O-Town Christmas Gathering ’07... Pitch black brew with a small, creamy, off-white head. Chocolate, espresso, charcoal and vanilla add up to the aroma. Full-bodied with a coarse mouthfeel and supple carbonation. Fair balance of chocolate and caramel sweetness versus tobacco, hop and burnt malt bitterness; although it tilts decidedly onto the sweet side. Finishes caramelized and bittersweet. Intense, but a touch too sweet for me. Kudos to DragonStout. Thanks for the beer! General_Gao (2579), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 15, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Dark dark brown with thin tan head that laced the glass. Chocolate nose and flavor. Not nearly as roasty as the Total Eclipse Stout. Retorp (2155), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 The aroma immediately offers a nice concentration of coffee, roasted/burnt malt and a light chocolate sweetness. The body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a aloft a diminishing mocha head. . The first sip offers your standard choc/coff. This brews is maybe a touch more burnt bitter than the norm. Also a bit more hoppy than usual which melds for a more bitter finish. Pretty decent porter with a little more pop than most.
