Originally reviewed: 10/16/08. Stopped by the brewery itself for lunch and had this brew. Came out a light copper/orange color with about a half-inch head. Pretty good retention with some spotty lacing.
Smell the hops right away. This beer smells good. Some citrus scents in there as well.
First thing I notice about this beer is the nice crisp hop bitterness. A little more bitter than most APAs, but very good nonetheless. Some caramel malt taste tries to balance this one out, but the hop is king here.
This had a good amount of carbonation that gave it a nice crisp feeling. This was a good APA, but not my favorite of their offerings for sure.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 rangerred (338) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - MAR 22, 2012
Poured out of a growler into a 1L glass mug.
Appearance is a slightly hazy medium copper with a very tiny head.
Nose has plenty of earthy hops along with some caramel and toffee notes from the malt.
Flavor is a bit watery from the start with a quick shot of hoppy bitterness. Some earthyness from the hops quickly follows along with some caramel and biscuit. A pleasant maltyness lingers through the finish.
Overall this isn’t a bad beer but the body is lacking. I also feel it is a little more hoppy than it should be and the malt kind of gets buried.

Draft. Pours golden orange with a white head. Light citric hoppy aroma with some grassy notes. The flavor has floral and grassy hops, light citric fruity notes, pale clean malty notes, and not much sweetness. Pretty good.

A translucent amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, butterscotch malt with faint British hops. In mouth, a nice honey laden malt, lingering over smooth Cascade hops, a bit light but good. On tap at the brewpub, August 13, 2011.

at G2B pub in Durham. another on the list of how I hadn’t rated this yet, oh well, Good aroma, sweet, citrusy, lemon & orange, little caramel malt. Clean golden orange color, small head, little to no lace. Bitter sweet flavor. Lite body, smooth oily mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. Nice easy to drink pale ale. aroma is best part for me. nice citrusy notes. always happy with a Pilot mountain.
