On tap at Tyler’s Disappointing on the first sip, but better as I drank. Not overly hoppy... focused more on the malts. Had a nice and surprising orange peel flavor at the end. Not bad.

on tap at Tribeca Tavern, Cary. 4/26/11 Good aroma, malty. nutty, mealy, bread. Clean brownish orange color, Good head that faded to a ring, minor lace. medium sweetness, lightly bitter. light body, creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation, sweet finish. Ok, classic Irish ale. Good session/lunch beer. doesn’t make me want another one though.

I just finisheda growler of this solid, somewhat hoppy red ale and I am extremely impressed by its balance. Piney bitterness up front is completely justified by a wonderful maple and caramel malty backbone. Hooray for well done simple brews!

Draught at the brewpub in WS. Reddish brown, medium off-white head. Malty nose, caramel, chocolate, sweet. Flavor is malty, with a lot of caramel, some chocolate, and roasty malt undertones. Slightly saccharin, but not too much. Slight bitter finish seems to come from roasted malts.

Originally reviewed: 3/17/10. Had this on tap at the brewpub. Came out a clear dark amber/red with a thin white head on top. Little lace stuck to the glass. Scents of breads, some mild toffee, and sharp hops. The body is crisp and refreshing. Plenty of carbonation. This is a high-hopped Irish Red. Reminds me of a tamed-down Amber Ale. Some mild breadiness in the middle, but the sweeter side that I expect from the style, is absent. It’s bitter, bold, and good. Not a bad take on the style. Recommend.

Copper colored pour, small white head. Aroma of malts, some caramel, and some grain. Flavor is mostly bitter with malts, with tinge of sweetness. Finish was rather bland and unimpressive however.

On tap at the brewery. Clear red pour with just a white ring around the edge. Nutty, malty aroma and flavor. Very drinkable.

Growler consumed during today’s baseball Opening Day festivities. A wonderful companion. Pours a clear burnished copper color with a heady cap of light tan froth. Lazy carbonation. Modest lacing. Aromas are mainly comprised of moist, dark, artisanal breads. Bready as can be. Some earthy hops sneak in. Flavors give the palate a solid caramel malt base along with more grainy bread. Wet dough. Crisp hop bite; just enough to make each sip finite. A smidge of hard mineral water kick. Solid mouthfeel; much more oomph than in other bland reds. A good drinker, as the growler was drained by the 7th inning of this afternoon’s 12-5 Cleveland victory.

Nice deep red color, refreshing, spicy on the finish. Not overly malty like some reds. Crisp with nut-like flavor. A bit more dynamic than the standard red.
