Commercial Description:
A light golden golden ale made with wheat and pale malt. Lighty hopped with Hallertau and Saaz hops. Foothills is proud to introduce Salem Gold to our new hometown. This is our lightest beer, but one of our best. Color-3 Lovibond; IBU-14

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear golden color with very little head on the sample I had. Not really much nose at all. A little grainy sweetness. The flavor is light with some pilsner malt flavor. A hint of citrus to it as well. A pretty light body with some spritzy carbonation and a little bite in the finish. A little bit dry, but doesn’t leave much on the palate.

Sampled at Southern Brewers Festival 2008. Lightly hazy well carbonated golden-orange brew with a lasting head. Grassy aroma with a mineral note. Clean lightly hopped (earthy) brew with just a hint of grain. A touch grassy as well. Clean and semi-dry with a light body. This is very easy drinking and probably on of the best Wheat Ales I’ve had (though the wheat does not stand out).

Draught at a Wilco show at Koka Booth. $8 for a pint is still better than $6 for a can of bud. Not surprisingly, this poured a bright gold color and had a smallish white head. Grainy, with the pilsner-like Saaz and Hallertau coming through nicely. A little buttery. This is certainly not an amazing beer, but it’s immensely drinkable and great for a hot summer day. Good food beer, too.

Draught at Fishmongers in Durham, NC. Pours golden with small white head. Aroma is grainy, cereal, wheat. Flavor is similar, with a watery finish. I for one do NOT think this is a good beer to drink on a hot day. I understand why they make it, but it isn’t a very good beer.

A refreshing light golden ale. A good alternative to macro light beers with a light hop flavor.

Part of a draft sampler from the brewpub. Straw colored, clear, minimal white head. A bit of citrus grains on the nose. Nice blend of spice, hops, and grain flavors. Insanely mild, but it finishes perfectly clean and is quite refreshing. Very little body, but this would be great on hot days and would go down easy all summer long.
