650 ml bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a small beige head. RIch mudcake aroma with molasses and licorice. Rich flavour of espresso, mudcake, strong grassy bitterness, mild fruitiness, cacao powder and bread. Full bodied. Extremely dry mouthfeel. A rather unique take on this style. Great.

65 cl bottle (9,75%) @ lusikka, ”Special release February 2014”. Thanks Jason!
Aroma has intensive chocolate tones, some sweet cocoa and hints of licorice. Flavour has dark chocolate, some tobacco, mellow ash and salty licorice tones. Rather dry palate for the style. Salty licorice tones grow stronger rather quickly and start to disturb. Nice, but I must say I expected more.

On Tap at Birch & Barley - Shows dark with coffee rims and foam The nose shows a lot of roasted malts, milk chocolate, caramel hints, molasses , and a little bit of coffee The palate shows medium body and high but even carbonation. A slight lactose sweetness, Heavy chocolate background throughout, intensely high bitterness bordering on overwhelming, pine like hoppy bitterness but with dark chocolate flavors also, extremely long finish with a lot of bitterness.

Ya, this stuff is wicked good. Oh, I’ve made better IRS myself, but it was 3 YO before it reached the heights. This pours inky black, dark brown head, the aroma is sweet wickedness. I don’t get the coffee in the aroma as much as I expected, but the bottle was a few months old. Bravo.

Shared bomber poured to snifters, displaying a black/brown hue, with some ruby highlighting, bubbly, brownish tan head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was roasted, cocoa, dark fruit as prune, with a touch of sweetness. Medium bodied, with low carbonation, the taste was roasted, with coffee showing up, continued cocoa, and a hint of tartness. No complaints. A nicely done Imperial Stout.

"This is a beer that I really liked, that I wanted to love. Oddly, it’s only real flaw is self inflicted - not enough chocolate. I was expecting decadence, a river of chocolate. What I got was a really really nice hoppy american imperial stout with notes of chocolate, coffee, & bitterness (from the cocoa and hops). As you will see in my score, I think highly of this beer, just baffled that a beer of this name would fall short on the chocolate aspect. It was there, but not really in more amount than many impy stouts that don’t have chocolate in the title. "
