From tap. Pours a deep brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was all chocolate and sweet coffee. Taste was deep chocolate and smooth with a deep mouth feel. Not heavy but very enjoyable. Silky.

Bottle split three ways and poured into a Bruery snifter. Got a whiff from the bottle quickly before being poured out. Roasted malts, some fruit flavors a touch of soy. Pours opaque with a hint of ruby color. Not picking up much chocolate but the beer has some semi-sweet malt, dark fruits, roast a faint of cocoa powder. Taste is pretty much the same with un-exciting chocolate flavors and a thin mouth feel. In my opinion this beer doesn’t look up to the hype, but who knows, maybe I had a bad bottle or it was stored incorrectly. Finish is chalky, semi-sweet, no alcohol notes or some bitterness. Cool to try, but I don’t think I would try and trade for this in the future.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 robinvboyer (2592) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 27, 2013
Incredible black pour, medium sized dark brown head. Intoxicating aroma of bitter chocolate, espresso, molasses, and some incredible charred malts. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, and a perfect viscousness i come to expect in a top shelf impy. The finish has a light, dark fruit maltiness with a huge bitter kick. The espresso and chocolate wash over and dominate till the end. The alcohol is nowhere to be found. I could sip this all night. World class.

Earthy fugal nose. Immediate slate and petrol up front smooths over a few sips to the chocolate in the namesake and moreso cocoa notes. Feels like it could use a little age or maybe even just come down in temp a bit to open up, but still amazing!

Incredibly delicious and not too thick but still very sweet. The color is an awesome caramel. I will definitely drink this again if I find it on tap

Great aroma, smells roasty--of coffee and burnt fruit. Slight tartness on the nose is unusual. Pours opaque and dark with a tan head. Tastes roasty , slightly bready, hints of fruit and vanilla with a creamy body and touches of tobacco and smoke. The flavor changes immensely as it warms up.

Aromas of cocoa, dark berries, hints of booze, espresso, and molasses. Black with a pretty lasting, dark tan head. Dry and roasty with perceptible strength. Full bodied, creamy smooth, with average carbonation, and a dry, roasty finish including lingering notes of chocolate-covered espresso beans.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 rangerred (674) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Had on tap.
Appearance is ptich black with a fairly thick dark brown head.
Tons of dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee on the aroma. Some notes of burnt caramel and toffee as well.
More roast on the flavor along with espresso and dark chocolate. Some hints of dark fruit although this is buried pretty deep below the chocolate, coffee, and caramel. A lot of sweetness with this beer with a pretty heavy body. Definitely a sipper.
Overall, this is a good beer but I am not blown away by it. I really enjoy the chocolate and coffee flavors but it is just a little on the heavy side.
