3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2014 Pours dark with an espresso like foam head. The aroma has notes of vanilla, milky cream, coffee, dark with semi sweet malts, mild smoke or toasted tones, and cocoa. In the flavor I picked up on bitter cocoa, mild bitter espresso taste, soft sweet sugar, toasted malts, vanilla, and some booze. The finish has a medium blend of coffee and hop bitterness, with a roasted malt taste, and booze. Overall a good beverage and I?d like to enjoy this again.

Bottle from jay. Pours a thin dark brown with dark brown foam. Smells slightly sweet with hints of vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Tastes roasty, with a surprising amount of tannins, hints of coffee, vanilla, and bit of root beer.

Dark brown/black with a good beige head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, dates, figs. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied, starts sweet on the palate with a roasty and slightly astringent finish. Flavour is chocolate, vanilla, toast, caramel, dark fruits.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Pours a deep reddish black-chocolate color. Aroma is cocoa with intense berry-like fruitiness. Taste is roast and chocolate with hints of strawberry, caramel, and burnt bread. Fairly light mouth feel for an imperial stout. Pretty good, but not worth the hype, in my opinion.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber from Peabody’s in Boone, NC. Immediate scent of malt, chocolate, toffee, rich coffee...like nearly fresh ground. Color is...dark!...like George Carlin used in a Saturday Night Live skit years ago. Amazing full flavor of chocolate, coffee, some toffee, a hint of molasses. Palate is saying...continue to enjoy this beer and overall....heck yes..I am getting this beer again!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A pretty solid, if not spectacular American RIS, leaning towards chocolate and sweetness rather than roast or any notable hop profile/bitterness. Don’t get much fruit either.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft pour at Lost Dog Dunn Loring. Poured a dark, thick black velvet color with an off-white head. Aroma was dark, roasted malts, chocolate malts, milk chocolate, notes. Flavor was a lot of dark caramel malt, roasted chocolate, milk chocolate, some light hop bitterness to cut through some of this. Molasses. Rich and creamy, almost seems barrel aged (wasn’t). Slightly boozy finish, it’s certainly at or near 10%. Quite good, shocked to see it on tap without much fanfare.
