4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Huge thanks to Ty5592 for a hand bottle of this via Mystery Swap 2.0. JEt black pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of roasty dark malt, some rauchy notes, big chocolate syrup, molasses, and some hops. Tastes rich and roasty malty, with a big chocolate syrup flavor coupled with molasses, some nuts, some hops, and some prune. Dense, complex palate. This one is outstanding!

Growler: Poured black with dark brown edges and tan head. With a swirl of the glass you see the legs and a brown film on the glass. Big roasted malt aroma with notes of chocoalte, dough and a hint of alcohol. The flavor was big and roasted. there was some hop flavor in the middle with some chocolate as well. Coffee showed up on the finihs. Mild bitterness on the finish. Nice body and warming sensation.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2010 (4/5/10, draft) Creamy brown head that leaves nice lacing, atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some burnt, roast, light cherry. Taste is sweet, roast, chocolate, burnt, some ash, light alcohol. Sticky full body, low carbonation. (9/5/7/3/15)
(3/15/07, growler, thanks kmweaver) Brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, roast, chocolate, some soy, light cinnamon, cherry. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, some coffee, roast, earthy, light molasses. Creamy medium-full body. Alcohol is nearly invisible at cellar temperatures, with just a slight burn in the finish. As it warms it becomes more obvious, but never unpleasant. (9/4/8/5/17)

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2008 Rerate, 22oz bottle (I think), sample #13 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Pours an oily, dark blackish-brown color; thin light tan head. Strong cocoa and toffee notes and some smoke in the aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy sticky dried fruits, ripe fruit, red fruit and caramel; malt forward and oily, with minimal bitterness. Lengthy, bitter chocolate and citrus bitterness; some leather. 220.127.116.11.17=4.1
Growler, courtesy of BleacherBum. Thanks a ton, Ryan!! Pours a dark black center with reddish-brown edges; medium tan head with pleasant lacing. Hints of milk chocolate, nougat, caramel, and alcohol in the aroma; slightly hot. Fluffy, dense mouthfeel: enormous amounts of nougat, burnt malts, chocolate (milk and dark), warming alcohol; hints of vanilla and pleasant hop bitterness; well-balanced. Surprisingly drinkable for a beer this dense and alcoholic. Long, chewy, dark chocolate and roasted malt finish. Good stuff. 18.104.22.168.17=4.0

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2008 Very dark and complex. Milk chocolate shines through in the burnt aroma and heavily in the flavor. Potent, but very drinkable, this is a very sweet stout. Bitterness rounds out the edges in the finish leaving you wanting more. A bit of fruity tang adds a nice zest to the mix. Definitely heavy handed, and slightly oily, and I’m loving every minute of it. Drink this with a chocolatey dessert.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Growler thanks to BleacherBum, my newest best friend! Poured an extra-deep shade of molasses-tinted brown with a perfect, thick dark yellowy-beige head.
The aroma began with rich, roasty toffee-laced dark chocolate malts.. hefty dose of pine tar and some vanilla accents then emerge... figs, licorice, and espresso also emerge and tickle the nose hairs.
The flavor had an overriding bitter pine and prickly alcohol character that really worked well here!... a couple different chocolate textures grace the core with rich & velvety represented in cahoots with cocoa powder... all ideally deep roasted... nice espresso and licorice as well with warm, slightly grainy alcohol accents toward the back. Heavily-bodied and supa-smooth across the palate with some grainy, bitter notes diffusing outward... looked great, tasted great, and felt great! This was a most excellent brew!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Foolish of me to only buy 3 growlers. Dark Khaki head forms and holds a rich lace down the side of the glass. Aromas of black strap molassas, espresso, and cacao powder all over the nose with just a kiss of roasted fig. The entry is a flood of sweet and roasted malts that balance themselves quite nicely. A light hop bitterness can be found, but overall this seductive, earthy, chocolate dances through. Doesn’t finish too sweet or too harshly. I really can’t get over this velvety mouthfeel, creamy and slick. The slight oilyness of the beer really helps the outfit match. Sad this won’t be around forever.

Draught. Pours dark black with a rather thin brown head. Aroma is more sweet coffee than chocolate, but there is still plenty of chocolate to go around. I guess I just expected a chocolate overload. Anyway, the aroma also has some nice oaky/earthy notes, and a bit of dark fruit. Flavor was largely the same, with a strong alcohol warming finish remarkable mouthfeel too.
