Milder than expected aroma, black pour, balanced taste of chocolate and malt with a lingering mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown/black with a good beige head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, dates, figs. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied, starts sweet on the palate with a roasty and slightly astringent finish. Flavour is chocolate, vanilla, toast, caramel, dark fruits.

Hog shack bottle share. Almost black, and scarce ruby, tan cap. Aroma of cocoa, licorice, plum, chocolate. Taste is sweet and bitter in the best kind of balance. Creamy, smooth.

Draft. Pours a deep reddish black-chocolate color. Aroma is cocoa with intense berry-like fruitiness. Taste is roast and chocolate with hints of strawberry, caramel, and burnt bread. Fairly light mouth feel for an imperial stout. Pretty good, but not worth the hype, in my opinion.

Bottles - Pours a very dark brown. Notes of chocolate, coffee, and anise. The taste is a bitter, dark chocolate plus coffee and some dark fruit. The body is a little thin. Overall, this is a pretty good beer.

Bomber from Peabody’s in Boone, NC. Immediate scent of malt, chocolate, toffee, rich coffee...like nearly fresh ground. Color is...dark!...like George Carlin used in a Saturday Night Live skit years ago. Amazing full flavor of chocolate, coffee, some toffee, a hint of molasses. Palate is saying...continue to enjoy this beer and overall....heck yes..I am getting this beer again!

A pretty solid, if not spectacular American RIS, leaning towards chocolate and sweetness rather than roast or any notable hop profile/bitterness. Don’t get much fruit either.

Draft pour at Lost Dog Dunn Loring. Poured a dark, thick black velvet color with an off-white head. Aroma was dark, roasted malts, chocolate malts, milk chocolate, notes. Flavor was a lot of dark caramel malt, roasted chocolate, milk chocolate, some light hop bitterness to cut through some of this. Molasses. Rich and creamy, almost seems barrel aged (wasn’t). Slightly boozy finish, it’s certainly at or near 10%. Quite good, shocked to see it on tap without much fanfare.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, a little coffee, some hints of dark fruits, and light dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend of the chocolate and the imperial stout. Smooth thicker texture. A good beer.

Purchased from house of brews and most recently had on tap from Bay Street biergarten. Some chocolate notes but I found this years to be more bitter than last. Still one of my favorite chocolate stouts.

Bottle shared @ Dean’s aged pale lager tasting, courtesy of kermis. Pours a pitch black beer with a small beige head on top. No lacing going on, short lasting head. Aroma is chocolate, licorice, roasted malts, some saltiness and molasses going on. Flavor is very interesing with both sweet and salty touches going on. Big chocolate, laurel, boozey flavors as well. Cloyingly sweet, yet fairly easy drinkable for the style. Very nice beer!
