Draft at the 2005 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. I think Suttree covered how black it was in the previous rate so I’ll just say it was black. A little tan head, though, covered this blackness. The aroma was of caramel and coffee. The flavor followed the same with a hint of chocolate in there also. Medium to full, creamy body. A very pleasing stout.

Pours black, completely black, black as a moonless night, as black a Jerry Reed’s soul, as black as ... I don’t know, something really black. Huge coffee aroma and flavor, with a nice dry crispness. Nice flavor of coffee throughout. Enjoyable. Sampled at 2005 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam.

(Knoxville Brewers’ Jam). Pours opaque black with ruby edges and a thin, tan head. The aroma is weet, containing malty caramel notes. I was pleased with the big coffee flavor. There is also a touch of chocolate, mild hops in the finish, and a sweet aftertaste. Not bad, not bad.

I think this is actually very good. Chocolate and coffee notes are very obvious. There is also a medium smoky flavor too. Definitely the best beer out of the rest from this place.

Draught at 11th Southern Brewers Festival in Chattanooga. Pours opaque with a small tan frothy head. Coffee dark roasted malt chocolate flavor with fruity hop (prune) notes. Bitter acidic dark chocolate flavor with prune/plum hoppy notes. Dark and clean medium bodied palate.

Draft sample at the Southern Brewers Festival (9/05). Perhaps this was such a stand out for me because I had been drinking IPA all day and this was a welcome change of pace. At any rate, I really enjoyed this. Great looking brew. Dark and chocolaty pour with a nice foamy head. The aroma was very pleasing with toasty malt, espresso grounds, unsweet chocolate, and charcoal. The flavor was straight forward and enjoyable with toasted and burnt malt flavors, coffee grounds, and hints of chocolate. The body was creamy with a hint of dryness coming in at the end.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2005 from the tap at the brew pub. pours very dark black with thin dark brown head. some lacing throughout. way too carbonated. aroma of roasted barley. tastes like weak, watered down coffee feels closer to drinking a soda in your mouth then what you’d expect from a stout.. quality ingredients but what were they trying to do with this thing???

From the tap at the brew pub, pours black with a dark, foamy head that lasts the length of the beer. Aromas of dark and chocolate malts. Thick and silky mouthfeel with a slight carbonation aftertaste. Tastes lightly of dark chocolate and the slightest hint of espresso, otherwise tastes like a stout. But a good one.
