Draught at the brewpub 3/24/06: Black-brown opaque body with a small tan head that is thick, creamy, and lasting. The nose is mild with notes of chocolate, roast, and coffee. This one is served on tap just like the other beers, not using a higher ratio of nitrogen/co2 as is sometimes done. The flavor begins with chocolate, then some licorice which surprises me a bit but does fit into the beer nicely. From there roasted malt, coffee, bakers chocolate, and light prunes all come through in the mouth. Full bodied, medium carbonated, finishing with lingering roast chocolate notes. This was one of my favorites while visiting - a nicely done stout without going wild, imperial or barrel aged.

Now we’re talking. THis is one of thier better brews by far. Flavor was nice and smooth. Has a nice roasted malt flavor to it. Was served to me way too cold. After warming a bit, this brew was very enjoyable.

This was the best of my sampler, hands down. Rich, malty, creamy, nice little hop burn, some hints of chocolate, really good all around. Went down smooth, easy to drink, a pretty damn fine stout if I must say. This was the best but I still have a growler of the double IPA to get into, which I am hoping is downright incredible.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2009 Good times here. Gorgeous midnight pours into the glass with a thick mahoganey head. Nice roasted malt on the nose with an off dry caramel malt suggestion. Espresso, fresh brewed, exudes from the glass and dances on the palate with sweet malt and earthy chocolate. I would almost call this a coffee stout, even though none goes in to the kettle. .

This beer was my introduction to the Foothills Brewing Company, and I’d say it was a pretty good choice. True to its name, no light escapes through the full glass. The coffee flavor overpowers the chocolate and the earthiness in this one. This is a very full-bodied beer, with a slight alcoholic dryness, though nothing as extreme as say a Yeti. I will definitely be seeking Foothills Brews out in the future.

Draught at the brewpub. Black, opauqe with thin tan head that laced the glass. Carbonated (rather than nitrogenated). Subtle roasty nose. Dry with big roasty nose and flavor with a hint of dark chocolate. Roasty bitteriness comes out again in the finish.

On tap @ Foothills, now listed @ a higher gravity, around 7%. Very solid, dark stout. Somewhat sweet and lactic, low on the roast. I will pick up this on my next trip.

Very black beer wih a good chocolate aroma. Full of chocolate malt and leaves a malty finish. Definitely the best of what I have had from foothill.

At the brewery. Opaque black, brown head with nice lacing. Predominate malty aroma. Coffee and dark roasted malt flavors. Not as full as some of the better stouts. Hops come through in the lightly bitter finish. Quite drinkable, and the best of the Foothills brews that I have tried.

This is an excellent beer. And the alcohol percentage is up to almost 7% per the mouth of the man that made the beer himself. Deep dark obscure nocturne. Very tan khaki head. Opaque in it’s darkness. Nose is increibly lactic and sacchariney barnyard. Not too roasted but definitely thick and from the farmhouse. Flavors are immediatley of cocoa, lots of it. The orastiness sets in and then the hops. Very bitter beer with a rond sweet edge. Lovely Cocoa only helps. Mouthfeel is immesne. Very English in that it is not too huge in alcohol and yet the mouthfeel is phenomenal. Massive stout.
