Storms come and go, and in the end, there’s just a refreshing breeze. So with this shimmering golden wheat beer, the escape is sure to be fresh, cooling and sustaining. We start with a dry and creamy wheat beer, and add fresh botanicals and a splash of key lime juice for a tangy flavor with the delicious bite of ginger. The flavor is bright, layered, and thoroughly satisfying. This beer resonates with the Caribbean otherworldliness of the Florida Keys. Try it with your favorite Gulf Coast foods: jambalaya, fresh grilled fish, gumbo, barbecued chicken or maybe an oyster po’boy. COLOR: hazy gold MALTS: honey, caramel, lager, flaked wheat HOPS: light at 14 IBU, with New Zealand Motueka BOTANICALS: fresh key lime juice, ginger, honeybush, lemon myrtle ALCOHOL: 3.8% ABV BODY & MOUTHFEEL: creamy and refreshing with a sweet-tart balance SERVED: best served cool (40F/4C) in a capacious goblet, garnished with a modest wedge of grapefruit or sprig of fresh mint

12 oz. bottle sent for review. Heay wheat color out of the glass, with a bit of a rose blush. Fizzy head, does not kick up as high as most wheat beers, no doubt kept down by some of its additions. Unlike their licorice porter, I do go for ginger, and this has fresh ginger overriding everything else in the nose. Ginger is up there in the taste, too, but some malts are standing behind the spice. I also get some backup from the key lime. In fact, the citrus and ginger come closer as I go through the glass, to kind of take over the experience. A little yeast settlement at the bottom of the bottle that you can take or leave. Maybe ginger beers aren’t your thing, but think of it as a break from all that pumpkin spice.

Generally, I dislike brews where the primary flavor is some kind of spice but I am a total sucker for a well done beer w/ lots of ginger and that is just what this is. It is a light refreshing beer where the earthy element of the fresh ginger flavor seems to take on the bittering roll of hops. The ginger doesn’t feel gimmicky her but rather a part of a well made brew.

Draft at Jerry’s. Pale gold with good, frothy, white head / Light nose of lime and other citrus, straw / Light body, mild tartness, good balance with a just hint of bitterness / Flavors of lime, lemon, ginger, grapefruit, straw / Admittedly not my kind of drink, seemingly more addressed towards a less hard core beer drinker, but it is well done and restrained for what it is.

[Tap] Hazy light yellow pour with a fizzy and quickly receding head. Aroma is mostly of ginger beer, with lemongrass, citrus zest and grains also prominent. Taste is of clean ginger root, lime, wheat malt and herbal notes. High carbonation level. Comes across as more of a ginger ale than a beer, but actually this was pretty decent.

Long awaited brewery entry to the site! Sampled at the last CBS annual picnic showing a cloudy, orangey amber color, with a frothy, soft white head, and wavy lacing. The aroma was soft, grain, with a hint of toast, lime-aid scent, light ginger, and a touch of sweetness. The taste was similar, but less expressive than the nose, adding low bitterness, light tartness, some spritziness to the carbonation, in a light body, with a light crisp & dry finish. Interesting & playful combination of notes that suited the picnic atmosphere well.
