Our Copperhead Ale is a copper colored German-style Altbier, with a light, malty sweetness and a pronounced hop flavor. Alt is the German word for old, referring to the older style of ale brewing. Altbier is Germany’s pale ale. Copperhead Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale and it has a medium body. It has hints of maltiness and hoppiness in its aroma, with a definite hop flavor and a medium hop bitterness. Altbier is predominately brewed in the northern part of Germany, especially Dusseldorf and gets its "sweet roast" flavor and copper color from caramunich malts.

Malt throughout the beer from aroma to finish. Light and refreshing. I would buy a six pack.

Tap. Nice copper color with a very thin white head. A very light and clean taste. Malty with very little hop presence.

12 oz bottle. Golden and clear in color with a thin head. Hoppy and malty. Citrus hops. Clean tasting. Malty flavor with a gentle hop flavor. Subtle malt character. Ok beer.

12 oz bottle. Golden, clear, thin white head. Alt? Reminds me more of Bass Ale. Malty slightly carmel aroma with some fruitiness. Malty flavor with gentle hoppiness. Perhaps even noble hops. Not a bad drinking beer, and no flaws, but a little boring.

Got this in my Beer of the Month Club shipment...and enjoyed it very much. I love the roasted malt color, aroma, and flavors. This is a good candidate for an everyday beer.

Clear copper color with a fluffy head that dissapeared pretty quickly, leaving behind nice lacing all around. Malty aroma with esters and dust. Taste is sweet caramel and roasted malts and some buscuits flavor. The taste is also dusty with some butterscotch. Im no fan of Altbiers and this cannot be a good one.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2007 Yet another unfamiliar beer brought to me by my beer club. I like the name though. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this brew poured a bronze color with a small tan head. The aroma was sour malt and mild hops. The flavor had a definite hop bite but was lacking in any complex hop definition. It was bitter but also rather bland overall with only a bit of malt and flowery hops on the finish. This beer had some potential but managed to under perform.

Bottle. Decent, but quickly receding head. Decent lace. Has a VERY lagerlike taste to it. Minimal malt taste. very different from other Alts I have had and NOT in a good way.

Bottle - Pours a dark reddish amber with a small whitish head that quickly disappeared. No lacing. Aroma is of citrus hops and nutty malt ... pleasent. Flavor is of bitter hops with some light malt mixed in. I would classify this more as a pale ale than an altbier ... not malty enough for the altbier nomenclature. A very average beer.

Microbeer Club selection: Poured amber with a disappearing head. Nice nutty aroma. Thin bodied, and it was hurt by a nasty coppery aftertaste that dominated anything else.
