COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Copperhead Ale is a copper colored German-style Altbier, with a light, malty sweetness and a pronounced hop flavor. Alt is the German word for old, referring to the older style of ale brewing. Altbier is Germany’s pale ale. Copperhead Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale and it has a medium body. It has hints of maltiness and hoppiness in its aroma, with a definite hop flavor and a medium hop bitterness. Altbier is predominately brewed in the northern part of Germany, especially Dusseldorf and gets its "sweet roast" flavor and copper color from caramunich malts.

Bottle at Bodean’s in Soho. Really malty, a little bit grainy, some hint of caramel but overall a bit boring.

Bottled, 355ml at The Jam Factory, Oxford. Amber with fizzed white head. Fruity, quite sweetish beer with a cherry type hint in the flavour. Quite malty throughout. It’s ok.

Bottle at Craig’s. Lightly hazy orange amber, thin white head. Sweet German lager malts, soft caramel, light spicy hops on the nose. Dry malts, slight toffee, light pepper flavours, soft clean lager malt finish. Ok.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2012 Draft at a concert, served in a plastic cup (no choice). Amber color with off-white head. Aroma of roasty malts and light spicey hops. Taste adds more malt sweetness with a light hop finish. Light overall but not bad, might be biased since my other options were macrobrews.

Bottled. Amber colour with a small creamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is bready and a bit grainy with some mild floral and earthy notes. Flavour is rather similar with no big surprises. A quite standard amber ale, with maybe some slight Altish notes...

Pours a green-gold with a thin but fluffy off-white head. Aroma is vaguely fruity, some pine and citrus hops; malty, a tough of licorice. Taste is dry, hoppy, citrus, a touch of caramel, some creaminess; an odd but not unpleasant aftertaste. Not too bad; a little watery. But not awful.

Half pint at the Rake. Served in a snifter, Bronze, hazy, 1 finger head. Malty aroma, notes of rasperry. Tasted malts, rasperry and some burnt caramel, charcol finish. Lively carbonation, smooth texture, medium body. Tried to be an Altbier but ended up being something like a weak Dopplebock, style best left to Dusseldorf brewers .

[Bottle from Beers of Europe] Amber, moderate off-white head, slight fizz. Lager-y hops up front - a bit of grass & lemon. Nice comforting, warming caramel malt in middle turns rather buttery after a while. Mildly bitter, slightly cardboardy finish. OK.
