COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Copperhead Ale is a copper colored German-style Altbier, with a light, malty sweetness and a pronounced hop flavor. Alt is the German word for old, referring to the older style of ale brewing. Altbier is Germany’s pale ale. Copperhead Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale and it has a medium body. It has hints of maltiness and hoppiness in its aroma, with a definite hop flavor and a medium hop bitterness. Altbier is predominately brewed in the northern part of Germany, especially Dusseldorf and gets its "sweet roast" flavor and copper color from caramunich malts.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours amber with a small head and gentle carbonation. The nose has honey and caramel. The taste has fudge, some malt and then a refreshing honey finish. The palate is medium bodied with a creamy finish and a slightly too sweet finish. For the style, this is a fairly good example of Alt but perhaps a bit sweet.

[keg at Jake’s Place, Edinburgh] Clear nut brown beer with a decent white head. The aroma is soft and bready, some sweet toffee in there. Similar flavours. Dry and minerally at first, but the sweeter caramel takes over. Hides the alcohol marvellously well [12042013]

McNeillR (247) - SCOTLAND - APR 13, 2013
Blurred haze of dark orange, decent off white head. Stern notes of sticky malt, dusting of light ginger. Jiggle of carbonation keeps a one way metallic malt edge, initial biacuitiness but almost like a red Irish ale, with a sapping bitter sweet finish. Not much hop.
Drank this fairly quickly, very little to it. Almost itching with carbonation.

Came from Beer of the Month (or something like). Opportunity to try beer from the east. The west rules, excepting Dogfish Head of course. This beer was thin with little hoppiness. Nice red tint and pleasant caramel (although subtle) aroma.

12 Oz. Bottle. Copper, hazy with a little white head. Aroma is bread and malts, not too strong. Taste is not hoopy at all, quite sweet, lots of caramel notes (Insert McKayla Maroney’s unimpressed face here).

Light haze on this amber beer, little white head. Light semi crisp palate. Minerals dominate. Mild malt with a whisper of caramel. Super mild hop - vague orange. Semi dry finish. Inoffensive but dull.
