3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Again one from CaptainCougar - and again gratitude. Lot of it. Iíd never get this stuff out West. Near opaque brown with ruby glimpses when held near light. Slight beige head. The aroma is like bakery buns. With dark fruit. Maybe like a prune pastry? Near full bodied with mild creamy carbonation. Malt? Oh yeah. Itís really malty. It has prune too. Not much hop. It finishes so undry. So why do I like it? The fruit and malt work together. It seems better balanced as time passes. Itís a lager Iíd drink before many others. If I saw it in a store, Iíd buy it. No higher praise.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A clear brown doppelbock with a thin big bubbled brown head, dissipating quickly. Aroma of Coffee Crisp chocolate bar, cereals, indicating some forthcoming lightness of body. In mouth, a sweetish and cloying concoction, with burned caramel, german hops, rather light bodied. Boring and cloying.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with deep ruby hues and a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of rich sweet dark caramel malt with a touch of brown sugar and dark fruits. Body starts with lots of thick sweet, almost cloying, dark caramel malt and some plum complexity with a touch of bitterness before a mostly sugary sweet finish. Itís usually better to err on the side of adding too much malt than too little, but this is one of those cases where the beer is too sweet without enough other character for balance. Still, a nice attempt at the style and would probably be better if it fermented down a little more.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Keg, The Rake, Southwark, 04/04/12. Mahogany with copper tints and a slim beige top. Aroma has some synthetic, sweetened fruit lambic (kriek). Sweet and Tunes-accented; sweet raisin, synthetic cherry, malt loaf; milk choc, honey-dripped fig. Sickly without enough malt seriousness. Too much of a ladybeer for me.
