2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 GT2 (3961) - USA - JAN 14, 2012
Tap at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD. Pours near black to clear cola with a thicker coffee latte head. Decent retention. Sheety nitro stout like lace. Nose is muted but there is vanilla bean an hazelnut chocolate. But for me tobacco is the dominant profile. As it warms the nose really takes a dive and reveals underlying huge diacetyl margarine character. For taste: savory beginning moving to tart lemon and harsher ash all atop something that is vanilla bean sticky and something that is quite grassy hoppy. Lighter, quite bitter palate. Overall impression is vanilla Coke character. Weak body with sharp carbonation and contrived vanilla additions.

Dark brown, moderate coffee head. One whiff screams diacetyl, probably the worst I’ve smelled in a stout, light coffee and chocolate. In it to tick it! Light coffee and roast flavor before the diacetyl swings in with a tarzan howl. Somehow, beer becomes a weird dessert in the finish, like a coffee cream-cheese cake, but diacetyl never really goes away. I hate diacetyl.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, butterscotch, chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at brewpub in Annapolis. Pours very dark brown with creamy dark tan head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, and some caramel. Nice mouthfeel. Tastes bigger than it actually is. Good drinkable stout.

Okay stout. Nothing spectacular. No real distinguishing taste. Prettl simple, with an okay finish

Pours dark brown, with a creamy white head and good lacing. Aroma of malt, coffee, roastiness. Tastes very smooth, with malt, some coffee/chocolate, and some roasty, smoky malt at the finish. Kind of light on the palate, but fairly complex.

A very nice stout. It is very smooth and creamy. The flavor is not strong, but still very good. It’s hard to drink just one.

Not really unlike a Murphy's. Nothing amazing here, sort of watery, some roasty notes, but definitely one of my least favorite from this brewery.

The stout was served a bit too cold. That combined with the nitrogen dispensing killed much of the flavor in this beer. Beer was also very thin.
