COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Fordham Lager is a golden Bavarian-style lager, with a firm malty body, a subtle hop character, and a slightly sweet finish. Helles is the German word for light or pale, referring to the color of the beer. This is the everyday drinking beer for Germans in Munich. Fordham Lager is bottom-fermented, making it a lager beer, and has a medium to light-body. It has a clean, malt accented aroma and a malty finish with little hop bitterness. Our Fordham Lager is a very balanced beer, meaning that it is not too sweet and not too bitter. It is brewed mostly with pale malted barley and small amounts of Vienna and Munich malts, which increases the body and maltiness in the beer.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2005 THIS BEER IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN THE BOTTLE VS. ON TAP. MY RATING REFLECTS TAP SAMPLES Update: I am certain they have changed the recipe. This always tasted like something of a Spaten Helles clone, but now it tastes just like Victory or Dominion. Which is good, as those are my favorite beers in the world. Much maltier than before, cereal sweetness with a good measure of hops. I really dig. Old: (3.6) I am biased, as this is my hometown beer, the only brewery in Annapolis. This Helles adheres strictly to the style--light, sweet malt with a dry finish and light on hops. Stands up well to Spaten, Lowenbrau, Hacker Pschorr, though could use a spike in the aroma. In a blind test, I found it indistiguishable from Spaten. In some samplings, I’ve noticed the hops a bit more in the nose and on the finish.

Medium gold color. Medium head. Aroma is malty and grainy. A medium bodied lager. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are mild and slightly spicy. A mild slightly sweet helles. Light and refreshing. Clean and crisp with no flavor defects. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a deep golden color, slightly hazy, with a copious head. Aroma is sweet and malty, mildly fruity in that lagered sort of way. Flavor is wonderful. Malty, slightly bready, with a little appley fruitiness. Light hoppy tang at the end. Balance is good. Carbonation is medium, body is light/medium. A really well done helles lager.

The golden-yellow appareance, with a light thin head, made me reluctant to try this brew. Still, the aroma was light and sweet, and I put my lips to it. Spicy and crisp, it is an excellent representation of the style. Not the best style, mind you, but if you want Helles, try this.

Light to medium golden body with a decent white head. Aroma of hay and cut grass, gentle. Slightly sweet in the mouth with a taste of light malts and very gentle grassy hops. Not complicated, but enjoyable and well done.

On tap - Annapolis - Clear sparkling dark gold, thin fizzy white head. Nice nose of malted butterscotch, and white bread, with a light nutty, grassy, caramel undertone. Well balanced flavors of nutty malt, bread, and sweet caramel. Medium bodied, fizzy carbonation, malty, bready finish. A pleasant surprise for sure...
