Tavern Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale. It is a medium to full-bodied beer with a hoppy aroma. Tavern Ale is served unfiltered resulting in a hazy or cloudy appearance. It has a full malt finish with a well rounded bitterness. Tavern Ale is an American Pale Ale because of the large amounts of American hops which lends a distinct, almost citrusy flavor to the beer. Therefore, our Tavern Ales is quite different from the "spicy" or "herby" flavor of European hops.

Man, this dog’s got some bite. Quite the hoppy brew, almost too much for an American Pale ale, still, it wasn’t bad either. I like Fordham beers. This one was kind of bitey for a concert type affair, but wasn’t lifeless either.

Draft - A hoppy West Coast version of the style. Served a bit flat, and a tad too cold. Otherwise quite good.

Savage Mill location - Hazy orange, lasting creamy off white head. Very soft aromas of citric fruit rinds and caramel. Well bittered flavors up front with citrus hops following through from start to finish. Medium bodied, pillow soft carbonation, bitter finish. Way too one dimensional (at least this batch) for an APA. IMO, more malt would do absolute wonders here...

Nice, hoppy pale with enough malting to keep it from going over the top. Pours a dark orange with a lot of floral in the nose. Lasting head. Thirst quencher.

Draft at the 2005 Maryland Brewers Spring Fest... Orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Citrusy nose with hints of sweat and wet leather. Dry and moderately bitter flavor with mild grapefruit. Medium-bodied with a dry, fizzy mouthfeel. Lengthy, bitter, dry finish.

Poured an amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits and toffee malts. Taste was predominantly sweet caramel malts, and a lengthy bitter finish. One of the highlights from yesterday.

Amber coloured body with a small off-white head. Aroma of slight floral hops with a predominately malt kick. Medium-bodied; Subtle acidic qualities (of lemon, vinegar) are noticeable in a rather one-dimensional hop/malt combination. Aftertaste lasts a while, but isn’t complex at all. Overall, a decent APA, but not a ’traditional’ one. I sampled this on ’pseudo-draught’ at the Old Dominion Brew Festival 2004 on 27-June-2004 in Ashburn, Virginia.
