Tavern Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale. It is a medium to full-bodied beer with a hoppy aroma. Tavern Ale is served unfiltered resulting in a hazy or cloudy appearance. It has a full malt finish with a well rounded bitterness. Tavern Ale is an American Pale Ale because of the large amounts of American hops which lends a distinct, almost citrusy flavor to the beer. Therefore, our Tavern Ales is quite different from the "spicy" or "herby" flavor of European hops.

The colour of rye bread, the smell of citrus and the taste of hops in an understated manner. Better than I expected...

Pours mid-amber with fluffy cream head. Dull berries and gingercake on nose. In the mouth the flavours not all that clear, the malt is muddy and the final bitterness is a bit dominant. May have an outof date bottle (no BBE)

12oz bottle, ABV 5.5%, from Westholme Stores, Goring. Poured dark amber with a ring of white head; caramel malt aroma with a touch of fruit; malty body, not too sweet, with some good hops making their presence felt immediately, and leaving a tingling finish. Good stuff.

Poured a hazy amber color with a lot of sediment floating around. Head is small and off-white. Aroma is malty with some pine and some grains. Taste has lots of grains with some citrus and grapefruit. Aftertaste is mostly citrus and some caramel. Overall, it’s ok, but nothing special.

Very good. Sorta like a 60 minute, but more earthy. Definitely a decent APA.

355ml bottle from Beers of Europe. There’s a little more malt character than normal in an APA, which pleases me. Toffee and caramel notes add to my pleasure. Carbonation is just a little too crisp for my taste. I reduced the carbonation by pouring from one glass to another, and got quite a creamy head, suggestive of live yeast, though there is no sediment. The beer actually tastes too clean for live yeast, though it could just be the sort of yeast used. Once the carbonation was reduced, the flavours were more pronounced, but the beer had lost some life, so suggesting that it had been artificially carbonated. The hops are firm - just a little too upfront for my taste, giving too much bitterness to the beer. The beer started out reasonably promising, but soon started to disappoint.
