Tavern Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale. It is a medium to full-bodied beer with a hoppy aroma. Tavern Ale is served unfiltered resulting in a hazy or cloudy appearance. It has a full malt finish with a well rounded bitterness. Tavern Ale is an American Pale Ale because of the large amounts of American hops which lends a distinct, almost citrusy flavor to the beer. Therefore, our Tavern Ales is quite different from the "spicy" or "herby" flavor of European hops.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A see-through, golden amber beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma has a foundation of caramel or crystal malts, with a pleasant hoppyness doing most of the work. Quite bitter flavor, with caramel maltyness in the back. Lasting bitter finish. Medium body, quite dry. A quite pleasant and easy drinkable beer. 110819

Hearty sweet toasted malt backbone that is resplendent with toffee and caramel. Pretty smooth, if not a little on the chewy side, light chocolate notes and some ripe fruit intermingle with some light spice and fir notes.

Bottle from GBBF 2011 and drunk at home. Clear russet colour with thin lasting off white head. Certainly a decently intense hop aroma with some toffee there too. Some empty toffee in the mouth. But more hops on the end are quite decent. Like some American beers, this almost seems to clean for its own good. Not a lot of yeast character and the malt flavours are not as full as they could be. Bit of boiled sweet on the toffee and some earthyness on the hop flavour. Decent level of bitterness. ok.

Poured a nice caramel color with a slightly off white head. Aroma had a strong caramel malt profile up front and was balanced out by a nice bitter hop note. Flavor was well balanced between sweet malts and hops. Finish was smooth and a little on the light side. Somewhat two-dimensional but it worked. A decent session ale.

355mL. Pour is a clear amber generating a massive, large bubbled, ice cream scoop, yellow head. Excellent retention. Lacing looks soapy and weak rather than sheety and full. Nose is really off- no infection but heavy trash and metals. Lots of old character- definitely past its prime. Taste is dishwater and soap to the max finishing with metals and heavy iron and copper. Really just disgusting. Drainpour.
