DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 25, 2010
Bottle, Beers of Advent day 24. Pours clear-to-filmy orange with a white halo. It is a Christmas beer, apparently- says so on the bottle. Appetising, highly Belgian aroma; Rowntree’s mandarin jelly set with real tinned mandarins and sprinkled with ground ginger and coriander. Bright, botanical and heavily mandarin-accented, either from hops or spices or both; orange barley squash, vanilla and pine needle hints. Feels a bit witbier-like; fresh and tangy, perfumed, very drinkable. Completely unchristmassy. One of the best beers of Xmas so far.

(Bottled) Very hazy amber with a small, lacy head. Grainy-malty, sweetish nose with dark fruitiness. Flavor is caramely-grainy-malty with some honeyish sweetness and low bitterness. Medium body, soft but slightly high carbonation. Overall a very basic Belgian, but I kinda like it just as it is. Doesn’t have enough oomph for a Xmas beer, though. I have no idea why this is a Saison, and not a Belgian Strong Ale. 5345

Bottled (from BeerPlanet.eu). Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is quie bready malts, yeast, some herbs, earth and mildly barnyardy notes. Flavour is sweet maltyness, some yeast, mild herbs, caramel, toffee an some slight barnyardy notes. A quite nice beer, as it warms a bit from fridge cold.

33cl bottle. pours golden, white head. aroma, blossom, some floral hops, grainy/wheat with some light fruits. flavors, malty with some sugar, mild touch of spices and hops. Palate remains moderately sweet with some floral notes, dry fruits and a mild spicy finish. Nice and refreshing, a little different for what is advertised as a xmas beer.
