Tap at the brewery. Cool place and an interesting first-up beer. 6.4% and quite bitter but the locals seemed to be all over it, as they should be because it’s a good beer. Served stupidly cold so the aroma is pretty subdued, but it’s very clean with subtly herbal, weedy (PoR-like) hops and fresh pale malt. Quite a linear flavour with nice, fresh, direct pale malt and a big, snappy bitterness that works really well. Hop flavours are quite subdued, but in a similar weedy vein. Basically zero yeast character. The flavours are quite simple and familiar, yet it’s quite a unique beer. Simple, direct, immensely drinkable and quite impressive. I wonder if they could achieve the same flavours at a lower alcohol level...? (Entered as an IPA because I couldn’t think of anything more appropriate.)
