4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 12, 2002
Clear ruby hued dark copper. Thin, sticky light tan head. Trickling carbonation. Healthy aroma of plums, molasses, hard water and metallic hints. Initial sip is mildly crisp yet deeply malted. Vinous qualities seep from a dark molasses sweetness. Medium body. Solid bitterness and spicy hop kick. Plum like fruity sweetness builds as it warms, as does a toasty malt flavor. Finishes with a touch more Crystal sweetness. Impressive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JUN 10, 2002
Re-Rate 06/10/02: Deep garnet, beige head and decent lace, the nose is caramel, slightly nut sweet. Front is sweet, the top light, the finish has a nice hop bite, dry, acidic, and quite drinkable.

I like this one. It is dark, smoky, earthy, and dry. Not so much like a German double bock, it is not sweet, rather it is bitter/malty.

Interesting brown-red color. Good solid flavor, reasonable head. Leaves a bit of a bitter aftertaste, but all in all a pretty good brew, the best coming out of Italy that I’ve had!
