This beer is labeled doppio malto and is a bock bier by style, coming in at a gravity of 16.8 degrees Plato, and 6.5% abv. This beer is a rich, delicious, sweet malty dark lager, brewed almost entirely with Munich malt, and has lots of flavor and character. Forst Sixtus pours to a beautiful, bright, deep chestnut brown color with a dense and creamy tan head, and a soft to moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very rich and aromatic, with lots of big sweet malty, toasty, nutty, and chocolatey malt aromas. The palate is rich and creamy on the tongue with more big malt character. Flavors of sweet malt, nuts, light toast, caramel, and undertones of milk chocolate glide over the tongue. Forst Sixtus finishes with more delicious creamy and malty flavors up front, then ends with a slightly cloying, slightly warming, soothing burn. This is an outstanding Italian version of bock bier in my opinion.

Dark red/brown, with a fabulous billowing head; raisins, apricots, figs and milk chocolate on the nozzum. Wonderfully rich maltiness on the palate, with a spicy finish, cognac and crushed red pepper flakes mingle with an iron-like flavor, all most suggesting ageing in oak, though I'm pretty damn sure that's not the case here. A rich, distinctive dopplebock, one of the 2 best Italian examples, really knock-out wonderful stuff!

Clear dark garnet in color with a strong glowing ruby tone within, delicately placed tannish head sits thin on top, reduces to a small collar around the edge and a broken whispy haze hovers, very minimal lace of spotty glaring lace stick. Aroma is quite full of dark plum and some sweetened molasses with some notes of anise. Taste has some deep tones swimming around in sweetly rendered malts lending plum and molasses, bits of chocolate make an appearance in some of the late lingering along with a small surge of sticky biting hops. The plum wears off as it warms and becomes more full of molasses and dark toffee; some spicyness fills the nose within the belches. Feel is favorable medium in body with a decent lighter slick, creamy feel and lightly gripping carbonation. A very nice showing with this brew, a pleasant surprise for sure eh.

A very good beer for its style. I really like the colour and the overall flavour profile. Caramel like, Chocolate, burnt and tobacco are the main notes. A general sweetness which does not disturb.

Clear ruby hued dark copper. Thin, sticky light tan head. Trickling carbonation. Healthy aroma of plums, molasses, hard water and metallic hints. Initial sip is mildly crisp yet deeply malted. Vinous qualities seep from a dark molasses sweetness. Medium body. Solid bitterness and spicy hop kick. Plum like fruity sweetness builds as it warms, as does a toasty malt flavor. Finishes with a touch more Crystal sweetness. Impressive.

Mahogany bodied with a thick head this was an excellent find. A lovely sea of malt greets the nose, medium sweet aroma of dusty malt balls. Nice roasted malt ball flavor with a delighful muskiness and sweetness on the palate as well as a brown sugar vein. Alcohol becomes more apparent towards the end of the glass and tickles the palate. Quite a treat and a fabulous, well balanced introduction to the style.
