SirSlarty (68), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA May 2, 2008 Thick head that loses it’s cool after talking to it but the underlayers are still nice and smoldering malt that just won’t shut up and the only way to get rid of their talking is to finish the whole thing off. If a beer can make me talk about it like a person then it must be good.
Mes_and_Sim (3885), London, Greater London, England Jul 6, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle from Spuyten Duyvil. Black with a thin tan head. Storming aroma with some full on vanilla and chocolate malt. Some oats, slight herbs and some really good fruity notes. Flavour is pretty much more of the same plus some chalky dark bitterness. Actually it’s not a patch on the quality of the aroma. Roasted coffee finish. Decent stuff but not amazing. Svesse (1492), Hässelby, Sweden Jul 6, 2008 (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Black colour with brief, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and tobacco. Roasted, malty taste with dark bitter chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, black coffee and hints of citrus in the finish. Not really well balanced, byt very tasty. 19641948 (473), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 4, 2008 Light cola color with plenty of ruby highlights shining through; not opaque to say the least. Thin collar of tan. Roasty coffee aroma with a smidge of cocoa hints. Smooth gliding cocoa flavor with just a hair of roastiness and astringency. Mild hop character with some earthiness. All in all, a solid "meh". malrubius (361), USA Jun 20, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Black with lasting tan ring. Roasted coffee and earthy aroma. Roasted coffee chocolate flavor with mild fruitiness and medium finishing lasting bitterness. Medium-light body for style and medium carbo. Eh. Mrthirstyneck (338), Minnesota, USA Jun 16, 2008 This one was decent enough. Nothing way impressive. Nice smooth drinker with some roast and toast. Slight chocolate aroma and flavor. Color was deep brown. Finished slightly dry which was nice as well.
