This Olde Ale has it roots in England as a strong stock ale that would be aged for years and blended with younger beers to add complexity. This is malt driven beer with a thick, chewy mouthfeel and a slightly spicy caramel, raisin, and chocolate/roast flavor. In adherence to tradition, this Olde Ale was naturally clarified in a conditioning tank since November, rather than being filtered.

Growler from the Avondale Estates Beer Growler. Dark mahogany color, with a huge, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is wonderfully complex. Strong caramel up front, but with some hay and light hickory smoke. Lightly roasted aromas sit in the background. Some good earthy and floral hops come forward in the middle. The flavor is very sweet and malty up front, with a nice mild bitterness through the finish. Heavy body, sticky, and thick, with a little chalkiness and graininess. This is a heavy and assertive malt bomb. Strong aromas, but still nicely balanced, and, given the ABV and thick palate, pretty easy to drink.

On tap at FCB. Brown color with a small head. A caramel malty aroma, with spices, dark fruit, cocoa and a light roast. Full body with a thick chewy feel. The flavor is strong and malty, lightly sweet and light alcohol. Smooth and tasty! Probably the best FCB I’ve tried.
