Appearance: black, frothy tan head, heavy icy lace
Aroma: sweet citrus aroma, touch of roasted
Flavor: roasted malt flavor, heavy dose of citrus hops enahnced by crystal sweetness, light bitterness rounds it out
Overall: more citrus than most cascadian IPA and it works well

Name: Imperial Cascadian IPA

less citrus than the draft six months ago allowing the roasted to come through stronger, more sweetness as well, still plenty of citrus but the roasted runs the show now,

Bomber from the Folsom BevMo. Pours very brown/black with a bubbly creamy tan head. Aroma is sort of swampy/herby citrus over dark near burnt malt. Med+ body. Flavor is quite citrus/resin over very dark burnt malt. We’re talking dry and astringent. And bitter. In the finish I think resin is the winner. A little creamy chocolate note pops up, but fagetaboudit. This is bitter, bitter, bitter. Great ale.

Tmoney99 (10399) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 15, 2012
Draft. Poured black with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted sweet malt and hop with a small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good complex beer.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2012 Tap @ brewery. Dark black appearance with a brown head. Piney hoppy nose with some dark malts. Pretty bitter, piney hoppy flavor on top of roasted dark malts. Pretty bitter hoppy, piney, earthy finish. Not my favorite Black IPA but it’s worth another try.

hopscotch (8776) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 17, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 18, 2012 Bottle... Pours black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is chocolate and black malts intermingled with leathery, acrid hops. Full-bodied and creamy with modest carbonation. The flavor presents dark chocolate and molasses as the opening act for acrid, citric, earthy hop bitterness. Lengthy, bitter, charcoal finish.
