COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brother of the beloved Barley Wine Ale, our brew boasts a preposterous 50% malted wheat for a pillowy mouthfeel. Ravenous yeast yields a warming brew ripe with caramel-like flavors and fruity esters.

This was a strange barleywine. It smelled lightly of molasses. The flavor mostly tastes of the molasses/caramel of a barley wine but with some wheat mixed in. I really like it.

Clear auburn copper with a smooth foamy head that doesn’t last too long. Smooth and invitingly sweet aroma of candied wheat, some caramel, and a light fruitiness like yellow apple and peach. Pillowy and smooth mouthfeel with lovely accents of caramel and bright fruity esters, a touch of candied cherry, with a warming booziness on the end that also brings a subtle floral bitterness. Charming and sweet.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2010 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep reddish amber with a little off-white head. Malty nose with a note of dried fruits, candied fruit, caramel and a little alcohol. Full, soft, oily body. Taste is like the nose and very well-balanced- sweet candied fruit with a bit of pine and citrus.Finish is smooth and sweet with a little warming alcohol. Two thumbs up.

Hazy dark amber color, with red hue; it has a medium sized head. Nice aroma, nutty malts, sweet fudge, sweet caramel. Good body strength; quite sweet mouthfeel but not too much; malt flavor, a bit nutty and buttery, with a strong bitterness, some hop oils too; better (more straight) than many other wheat wines. Good.

Aroma is fruity and a little yeasty/wheaty, not strong but still appealing. It pours a beautiful dark golden amber with a substantial, fluffy white head that leaves some decent lacing. Flavor - WOO HOO, has it got an alcohol bite to it! Other than that, it tastes more like an ale than a wheat beer, fruity, malty and a little bit yeasty. Texture is smooth as soy milk with a subtle but long-lasting tingle.

Summer 2011 - Here’s the pinnacle of the tasters we enjoyed at Fort Collins Brewery, the not-so-much heralded Wheat Wine. I can’t figure out why this doesn’t get more love from the existing reviews, but it is unfairly neglected. Featuring a sweet aroma, rich with caramel and fresh cut apples and bubble gum, it’s hard for me to understand that this was born from the same womb as some of the other tasters which were…less prone to being given affection (to put it needlessly exceedingly politely.) This features a lot of those sweet flavors I’ve come to adore in barley wines, without being overtly dark about it. The flavors are there, and boozy, but lighter. Intense, dripping notes of honey, brown sugar, honey cakes, light maple syrup and even lighter, very unique pine notes are blended with a an aggressive, lisping alcohol flavor to produce a fantastically new and novel flavor. This is what I was looking for when I drove all the way to Ft. Collins, and it only took half a flight of tasters for me to find it at Ft. Collins Brewery.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter at 48°. Color is a deep clear amber with mellow carbonation that produces a thin tight head. Aroma jumps out with a rich caramel scent with hints of honey, raisins and honey. It starts with a medium body that goes down with a light smooth feel. Finish comes in moderately sweet with pear, wine and raisin taste that is topped off with a nice toffee. A mild bitterness comes out in a clean after taste. This is a very well done brew, its very easy drinking for such a strong brew. The alcohol is well hidden until it warms a bit then it shows just a little.

Pours a transparent deep copper amber with a thin-lacing ring of off-white head. Has a sweet toasty caramel malty and wheaty nose with a touch of biscuity malts. Starts with good fullness and toasty light caramel sweetness with some light fruity notes before a smooth bready sweet finish. A nice wheat wine with good complexity.

Bottle… Clear, light copper ale with a big, pillowy, off-white head. Decent retention. The nose is malty, fruity and herbal – caramel, date, plum and spicy wheat malt. Full-bodied, velvety and fatty with stinging carbonation. Malty, spicy and fruity flavors of caramel, plum, date, pumpernickel and more than a hint of ethanol. Nicely hopped, but the malts shine here. Bittersweet, warming, caramel and spicy-grain finish.
