Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Apr 24, 2007 bottle-light copper with a fainlty soapy white head. nose is grainy and spicy with toasted amber malts. flavors are more grainy than i was expecting, but to be expected due to the style. palte is soft and reminds me of spiced banana bread for some reason. I dunno. overall, not a bad marzen, but definately a style that i dont give too much for.
alraicercsu (106), Ft.Collins, Colorado, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bottle. Copper colored with a small white head. Smells like smoaked ginger. Sweet and bitter tasting. Not my favorite but not horrible. jsquire (1899), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Mar 8, 2008 Copper colored beer with a thin off white head. When I first smelled this my initial reaction was "ginger ale." There is a light, fuzzy sweetness in here that reminds me of ginger ale. That light sweetness carries through in to the taste. Almost like they used Sprite instead of water. Light grains with a little roast to them. Very bubbley on the tongue, which just adds to my soda impression. Easy drinking beer, but not much else to balance the sweet. jcwattsrugger (4045), Florida and, New Jersey, USA May 20, 2007 12oz bottle-pours a thin bubbly white head and hazy amber color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel. Taste follows with sugar, toasty, fruity, which over powers the hint of hops-spicy. Syrupy. OK carbonation, 3.0. on a cooler October or November day I’d probably rate higher, therefore 3.3 Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Feb 14, 2007 2006 version in the bottle from Wilbur’s. Pours a deep reddish amber with a large frothy off white head. I must admit, it looks like a marzen. Bread dough aroma is strongest, but a bit of fruitiness and toastedness can also be discerned. Flavor is medium malty with a strong earthiness to the taste. Medium to light carbonation makes this a smooth and easy drinker. At a fest, I figure that I’d get rather smashed on this due to its drinkability. Nice rings of lacing remain in the glass as it goes down. Still, there’s that omnipresent chocolate/roasted aftertaste that I seem to get from just about every Ft. Collins Brewery product.
